Do the tie rod ends have to come off? I've read some places that they need to be removed but I've also read that they springs can be changed out without removing them. Why the conflicting information?

yes....it's pretty easy to do, so why not? Flip over the crown nut and put it back on upsidedown and flush with the top of the tie rod end. Smack it a couple times with a hammer and off she comes. No puller and no damage to the tie rod end

HAHAHA! it is so easy, so why not just do it? You can make so much more room by being able to move it. I know the extra 2 min is a hassle, but hey.....I want as much room as possible when working on my cars.
