Impersonating a Law enforcement Officer?

Is it totally Illegal to impersonate an Officer of the law? This is involving a identity theft from a couple months ago. I got an IM from this person who is accusing me of doing the thefts even though I didnt, the Instant Message basically said that he was the detective and he was watching me. Any ideas, im really fed up with this loser. Thanks

Zeek, it is illegal under Federal Law to impersonate a Law enforcement officer.

Did this person claim he was a police detective with a specific department?

Contact the department he claimed he worked for and give them the email.

Yes he claimed he worked fro the NPD and said he was that spefic detective by name, said he was watching me too. Im going to call my sister today, cause she happens to work for NPD
