Is my 2.9 whipple kit putting out the right amount of rwhp?

I just got my 2012 Shelby upgraded with the 2.9 whipple supercharger kit. I took it to the dyno and only got 600rwhp/590 torque. The guy at the dyno said that the speed limiter stopped it to getting in the mid 600's rwhp. I have the ford tune on it because I don't want to void the warranty. Does any one know if I remove the speed limiter will it void warranty. Also do my numbers look around the right area for the supercharger kit.

I don't think the speed limiter would be reached in 4th gear which is the gear your car should be dynoed in (1:1).
I also think it should make more than 600whp

Yeah those were the numbers in forth gear fifth were even lower 575 rwhp/595 torque. that is when he told me the speed limiter was the problem. I though for sure I would have got at least 630rwhp in forth. I feel that the numbers are low and I don't know if is might be from the frpp tune or they just didn't do something right when hooking it up.

Sounds like an incompetant tuner...

Basically but don't know all that's done and how conservative the tune is. Heck if he said it was the limiter stopping it, wouldn't be surprised if the TC was on killing HP.

I had ford do the frpp tune that came with the supercharger kit. I guess I will have to take it back and see what the deal is. I would just think if ford racing says the car with get 750 hp witch is around 637 rwhp then I thought it would. Ford racing is usually very good with hp numbers.

What kind of dyno? Some read lower or higher depending on the make and model.

Also, did you dyno it prior on the same dyno? If so, how much HP did you pick up from the new blower?

Frpp tune and their Whipple will go 635 on a DynoJet. Almost every time.

Op-
Use good gas.
Have your tires filled.

I'll assume 3.31,3.55 or 3.73 gear. The higher the number, the less you'll show on a dyno.

Taller than stock tires? Less numbers on a dyno.

Make sure they have the tires on top of the roller.

4th gear ONLY.
Traction control off.
Start at 2000 and pull to the limiter.

Datalog it so you can use that and your boost to see if you have belt/tire slip... You're pulling timing due to heat soak.
Get an a/f so you'll know if it's rich, robbing you of power.

My 2010 only puts 540 down. I need to start doing some logging. I think that it is likely alternator or fuel pressure that is the problem. It is dropping throttle over 5000rpm and not storing codes. It only sees 14 psi because of the throttle backing off.

Make sure the spark plug gap is at .030-.032
If the spark gap is to big, spark blow out could be mistaken as hitting a limiter.

OP, I don't think I've read a single post anywhere in which a new owner of the FRPP 2.9L Whipple kit makes the advertised power. Like you, I expected to be in the 630s at the wheels. I was thoroughly disappointed to see low 620s (and less after heat soak); essentially gaining a measly 100RWHP over stock. For just shy of six grand, I expected more for my money. I raised the issue to Ford Racing, and they generally didn't care. They gave me the song and dance about driveline loss.

The FR tune is way too conservative, and I was never happy with it. After much frustration and "dyno number envy," I finally gave in and bought a new tune and tuner from VMP. What a revelation!! The difference was night and day. The acceleration was literally scary. It felt like I picked up 100RWHP just from a better tune. I haven't dyno'd it since getting the better tune since I'm happy with the way it runs. I'm guessing, though, that I'm making at least 660RWHP now; maybe even as high as 680RWHP based on my mods and tweaks here and there.

For reference, my non FRPP Whipple 2.9L made 654rwh with longtubes, and the 3.25" pulley. Not even the 3" pulley the FRPP kit comes with. So if anyone's FRPP 2.9L kit/tune is making less than 610-630 in reasonable conditions, then something's not what it should be.

Then you haven't been reading BJ's posts.

Interesting. Direct from Dustin at Whipple, the correct gap for the FRPP/Whipple kit included plugs is .025" (from my writeup), same as the instructions from FRPP direct you to do.
