the problem you have with most of that stuff is that a lot of it is written by a closed minded atheist and goes counter to what most scholars now believe. The consensus is that Jesus was a real person and there is enough archeological evidence to support that, his diatribe notwithstanding.
Agreed, but he's essentially either going to believe in a creator or not, that doesnt change any facts presented. He's not presenting personal beliefs.
for example he makes a big deal that certain contemporary historians make no mention of Jesus but later ones (Josephus for example) do. the fact is that historians and known to report what THEY think is history. and Jesus, in spite of his alleged popularity, may simply not have made this guys radar or was dismissed as a religious nut job not worth reporting on.
It's not on that basis alone he rejects the notion of a divine Jesus. It's a piece of the puzzle that adds up. And considering other historical records from that time, and Jesus' nature as presented in the bible, he would've been recorded by someone. Everything about him comes from a long period after his life based on hearsay.
Most scholars do agree that the books of the bible were not all written by the person whose name they bear. and there is evidence that it was common place for someone to take teachings of someone, Matthew lets say, and because it is based on the words and/or teachings of Matthew they name the book "Matthew" that does not mean squat when it comes to the authenticity of the story however.
No, but it does tell us that the authenticity of such writings that are not based on witness accounts and just hearsay should be taken for what they're worth.
the only real question that has not, and will not, be answered by historians about Jesus is was he the Son of God as claimed or did the religion simply make it up and he was really just a nice man who was adept at healing and teaching.
Personally I believe that he did live and he was as claimed the Son of God. I just don't believe the bible thumpers version.
That comes down to whether you want to believe or not.
