Pilot Sport 4 S reversal on rims

Is there any real reason why I couldn't reverse the 4 S tires on a rim? They are not unidirectional tires and can be swapped between sides...... but that won't help if the insides are wearing....which may be front end struts but not ready to replace.

So if I notice wear on my new set on the insides at 7-10K I may have a shop reverse the tire on the rims. The only thing I can think off is that maybe the protection rim lip on the tire may not be as pronounced on the normal inside of the tire. If the tire is not unidirectional I'm not sure what difference it would make reversing it on the rim.

When u replce them get the Contiental Extreme Contact Sport 02's...... 10x better than the PS4.

Hooks better, takes corners better, last longer, works better in the rain and its cheaper!

No. There is an inside/outside to the tire/tread design. Outside means outside.

If they are so worn from too much camber (incorrect toe), that you fear you will "cord" them if left as is AND you cannot afford new tires, I would swap insides to outsides. Obviously, they will not corner as well, and the "new" outside will wear much faster than if mounted correctly.

Have you run both? I'm on Pilot Super Sports right now and was eyeing the PS4 as a replacement.

Well, I have them on my Golf R as well as my Trackhawk and I can tell u with 100% certainty it hooks better, lasts longer and works just as well if not better in the rain. Its really a dope ass tire!

I had PS4's on the Trackhawk as a DD. I took them off and put the Conti's on after seeing how well they worked with my Golf R.

Golf R makes 650 whp and hooks like velcro with these! Freaking skating pond with the PS4's. Those tires just suck period! These are a 1000x better!

I have Nitto 555R2's that I run in the Trackhawk as well. The Conti's hook just as good as the Nitto's. Nitto's may have a slight advantage from a dig but suck in the rain after the groves disappear.

For a DD tire that hooks dam near as good as a drag radial u really cant beat it right now. Nothing is better or even close TBH.

Its not even fair to compare the PS4 with the Conti. The Conti is such a better tire in every single way including price!

If they are at risk of "cording" on the outside, I would flip them around. Not ideal with the "inside" on the "outside", and will wear much quicker in heavy cornering (outer edge), but otherwise not going to be the end of the world. Will have to keep in mind virtually every performance aspect of driving on them, could be reduced (at least somewhat), since you are not running in optimal configuration.

I admit to not having tried any summer tire on an AWD, with the power you are talking about (closest I have is an EVO8 @ about 460 @ the wheels). But I've run the PS4S (a 245) on my 4000lb+ pig Fusion Sport (not the pinnacle of sports car suspensions). I pulled over a g cornering on a road course with only them and sway bars.

I also feel they steady state corner, 95% of dry pavement, on wet pavement (not puddles or heavy rain, but just wet pavement).

The thing the Mich do better than really any other tire, is turn in. I like razor sharp turn in on the street, to avoid potholes (and stupid Hasidic's, who drive like crap).

I'd consider the Conti's due to your recommendation, and this test (where they actually came in first), but I think you are being a bit hard on the Mich's. They have been a phenomenal tire for me, especially in the rain (where they are so good new, it seems like they are sprinkled with fairy dust or something).

The Pilot Sport 4 S can't be too bad since they are the stock tires on my Z51, hold at 1G in turns and have no slip from a takeoff. However I am waiting to see if they develope the known "ping" as they wear like I have on my GT500 tires. I may try the Contis on my next GT500 set just to see if they are quieter on the road.

I asked Michelin about running the tires reversed just in case they wore again on the inside fronts and they finally responded. They don't recommend it (knew that was coming) but said it would result in slight traction loss and possible premature tire wear.

Are you making this comparison experiencing the PS4s new?

Asking because these are the two tires I am debating putting on my car.

I've always been a big fan of Continental but I am not brand loyal and will used what works best.
