Tires for 94' Factory Wheels

Can I put a 275/40/17 tire on my factory 17x8 94 Cobra wheel?

Also, has anyone ever used spacers on their rear wheels? I'm not sure if I would put them on my car, but just wanted to see if there's anybody out there with them and see what their experiences with them were.

I put that size tire on the rear of my '95 Cobra w/ same size wheels. I bought a set of Kumho Ecsta super 712's from Discount Tire direct and paid $240.04 to have them delivered to my door, in 2 days. So far (1500 mi.) they seem to perform very well for the street as hard as I run them. I as yet haven't raced it very much, at least not against the clock. They are supposed to get pretty good tread life. As long as you keep:burnout: this down.
