the 427 was listed on the books as an industrial engine until the mid70s. somewhere burried in fordfe.com is a picture of a 427 used in an alaska air jet heater.

does anyone know how long chris craft used them as marine engines? watch the crankshaft rear seal cut on any used 427 parts - half the chris craft engines are reverse rotation.

When did they stop making the 427?

I'm not 100%, but I think it was '68 for production veh. They still had it in NASCAR. I've heard of some documented '68 Mustang Drag cars with the 427, and a friend of mine had a '68 Shelby GT-500 'vert C-6/427. '69 was the start of the 429ci for performance, so the 427 was out, I think.

My $.02

1st year for the 428(7 litre) was 1966 ... that's why all(most)of the engineering #s and part #s have a C6AE or C6AZ prefix respectively...
I believe as far as production models with a 427...
The last one I can think of was the 1968 Cougar XR7 GTE...(I believe the XR7 came from the 7 liter size)
A friend had one that was an automatic, they had the 427 big bore blocks, but they were center oiled just like 99% of the FE family(330,352,360,361,390,391,406,410,428)

The primary weakness in most FE engines was oiling... the center oiling sucked!(coupled with the non-cross drilled cranks)this oiling design was ditched when Ford designed the 221 small block V8 for the 62 fairlane...
this of course evolved into our beloved 302 in 1968-1/2... with a stop at 260(with the 6 cylinder bore size)and 289(4" bore) in between...

There.... now I can be counted with the THREAD DERAILERS! too!

It's alive!

Made a bunch of pulls on the dyno at Superchips last week. It is very rev happy, making peak power at 7800+.

New best! At the NMRA season opener 1.33 60' and ran 10.09/133+ with a soft tune. My chassis is not 9 sec legal so i had to soften it up a bit. The new engine is smooth as glass at the finish line, turning 8100rpm.

Hey Boss, heard on these GT 5.4 blocks you have to fab a starter bracket. Do you have any pics on how you did yours? Is it a simple job if you're a metal fabricator, like a welder?

I believe back in the early '60's our Country Squire had a "Police Interceptor"
in it, but I'm not sure of the size. I do remember that moniker on the air
filter body though (it sits on the top of CARBURETOR for you young-uns!).

(add me to the OLD guys (or FOGS, as we callem around here!)

(and the Hijackers too, while your at it!)
