I'd like some opinions on these two tires. I was going to go with the MT's but American Muscle is sold out at the moment. My car makes 450whp and the current MT Street Comps are horrible at this power level. I'd just like to be able to hook from a dig in 1st gear and have the tires last at least a season of summer driving before having to be replaced.

I currently have the NT05Rs. I chose them over the MT purely because of price and I got $100 rebate. I am running 450rwhp in my foxbody and it will blow them off in second gear.
Close friend runs the MT at much higher HP and doesn’t have that problem.
There’s a reason most drag racers run MT.

I’m running 275s on OEM 03 cobra 17x9s.
Is this at the track?
I have read that you have to get the NT05Rs pretty hot to get them sticky.
For running around on the street with a random pull here and there I haven’t been very impressed with them, compared to my experience with the MT.

I run 315/35/20 NT05Rs on 20x11s and hooked 4.10s at 750rwhp on my '14 GT500.
The MT will hook better but the NT05Rs the better street tire. Most likely more than just the tire.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. This will be mostly for the street and some track use (Im hoping). I think ill wait till the MTs are in stock again or just purchase them in the spring since the car is going into hibernation for the year.

Good idea. No point in buying new rubber to sit.
If it's a rare strip car at 450rwhp, you'll enjoy the Nitto better on the street and if they're still spinning you'll need to work on other issues--suspension, technique or the nut that's loose behind the wheel :)
Good luck man

275 what?

I’m on a 275/40. Remember you get benefits from sidewall as well.

275/40 on the stock 17x9s

Mine are also 275/40, I can’t argue the possibility that it is the nut behind the wheel.
Could be the weight/suspension set up as well. My foxbody coupe is fully stripped. I don’t have the problem with a 250lb passenger.

J- Sent you a question via pm to avoid thread derailment

Well I ended up buying new tires yesterday on eBay. Discount Tire Direct has a $100 off coupon on purchases of $400 or more (ends today @ midnight). I decided on the 315 NT555Rs for the rear and 275 NT555 G2s for the front. $586 shipped, can't really beat that. Ill either get the tires put on and park the car or keep them in my basement till spring time.

They had NT05s available but I really was worried that Id eat them up in no time DD'ing the car over summer.

Ive ran a pair of well used 555Rs years ago and they worked well for me at lower power levels. Im sure they will hold 450whp no problem and give me the life expectancy that I am looking for.
