Nice! I love old DPS Mustangs. I found this clean one at a car show a couple of weeks ago.

Very cool. However what's the deal with it, can you drive it on the street since its painted like a cop car and has all of the lights and such. Regardless it is a very clean and nice find.

To be honest I have no idea. I put covers on all of the lights and put a piece of electrical tape over highway patrol. I have driven past a few cops and I just wave. So far I have put about 600 miles on the car and havnt been hastled yet. I know some states you cant even own a car like this. In NJ, they pulled a local lady over who has a Georgia car and they were trying really hard to impound her car while she was trailering it across the state lines.

Thats pretty cool. Another cool thing about my car. The radio and the lights are all matching number serial numbered. I took the buck tags off of the car because people like to steal them

Im telling you what. It really does drive amazing. Out of all of the cars and SUV's and trucks I have ever had, this car rides the smoothest. All of my buddies that have taken rides in it are amazed by the car. It is funny though, when I am driving and someone comes speeding up behind me and they realize what it is they back off instantly. Not to incriminate myself but all of the lights work and radar. The radio works but they have changed different frequencies so I believe only 1 channel works.

haha, yes the hat came with the car. No I will never wear it. It has a stain on the inside of the hat probably from sweating. Even if it is illegal to drive, it sure is fun!!!

Awesome car, there was definitely alot of time and $$ invested in bringing that thing back to "like new" condition. Mint regatta blue interior is almost impossible to find too. I definitely would not mod it, it is an investment and rare the way it is. Once it is modded it's like any other 5.0 notch. I have had (2) of them, both of which are getting restored by there new owners.

What was the purpose of the trunk release being under the steer column?
Easier access.

Some cars had shotguns or various electronic equipment mounted up front on the dash that could have made it difficult to open the glove box from the drivers seat to access the trunk release button.

Thanks buddy, I do not plan on ever modding the car. It is nice having a stock car that I can depend on. The guy I purchased the car used a 25k mile donor car for the interior. After owning 2 hatchbacks, I really wanted a ssp notch. I dont think I could of bought a nicer one IMO.

Definitely true! It is nice to hop in a Mustang that you know won't break. I had some of my best times with stock 5.0 stangs, you could beat on them all day and not really have to worry about breaking anything lol.

Yeah exactly! The only thing I am concerned about is the cop that pulls me over for impersonating since I still have all of the working lights/radar/etc. Even though it is all covered up and the state trooper section is covered I feel like I am going to get hassled badly

well in texas as far as i know you can have it painted the same way with all the bells and whistles but you can't have the badging. AKA no stickers on the doors...I had a 1986 SSP notch that i recently sold. it was one of the first ssp's in texas. I love those cars but i'm too mod happy to own one. I'd feel bad about modding it even if it was done as clean as possible.

edit: Also as far as the lights go i THINK you can have them mounted but not connected. This is for texas only as far as i know, i asked A LOT of q's when i had mine but i forgot where my folder is on the stuff. Should have never sold it but tough choices, save my dog or sell the car for the vet bill. dog died anyway...goddamn country song i tell ya!

Lol. I would of let the dog die and keep the car. On a serious note, the door still says "texas department of public safety" and then in the middle I put a piece of electrical tape over the Highway Patrol and all of the lights I made custome covers and im waiting on a cover for the radar and radio.
