my fiest cob ra, my clutch was gone after 4k, gy that had it before me wasted it and 5th and 6 gear as well i ended up have to get a spec viper trans for it, i was none to pleased

Yeah, that has been my concern since I got the car. It was a garage queen with around 10k miles when I got it, but the previous owner (guy in his 40's) appeared to not really have a great command of shifting a manual trans, or maybe it was just the crappy quadrant setup (or combo of both), but I was not impressed with his shifting when he took me for the first ride in it when I was looking at it. I do expect at some point that I will need to put in a twin disc setup, but since I don't drag the car and blow donuts with it, it is holding fine at 18psi. I have done every shifter related mod though and that has helped tremendously in smoothing the shifting out, which I'm sure contributes to more longevity.

This is a valid opinion, but very juvenile. I have a Whipple running at 18psi and have never tracked it, or seriously street raced it. My car is a complete garage queen and I love having the power even if I choose not to beat the daylights out of it. The way I look at it my car will still be badass LONG after most of them are clapped out, beat to death junkers. Each to his own though...

Having the power for what to impress people on SVTP. My car will never be clapped out, when something breaks or get worn out it gets replaced with more "badass" parts and performs even better. All while I will have enjoyed my car 1000's of times more than you all while yours sits in a garage loosing value just like mine.

You guys are worried about a clutch? U shouldn't even buy a car that can be modded, Better hope the TOB is New or they don't have aftermarket breaks those rotors may warp and who wants to buy new breaks.

My car gets driven to red line and tires spinning all the time. And with Ported eaton trapping 132 mph I'm sure the motor is in great shape.

If I had a clutch that lasted 30K I would faint. its a wear Item. A good single disk costs $400 say 6 to get FW cut and a afternoons work to throw a new one in. IF thats what your worried about go buy a hybrid because the modded car world is not for you guys.

OP if you look at a modded car ask to be get a compression check done. Seller may even split cost with you because if the results are good it would be a good selling point. If it looks good have the tune confirmed and call it a day.

You could buy a bone stock car and it spin a bearing on the way home.

uhm i would compression test your car
:p

Original clutch 44620 miles roughly 550 wheel hp still goin strong! ;-)

NO noise from TOB eaither.

If it has ever only seen that hp once one the dyno its no big deal. Go to the track and launch on a sticky tire you will love the smell.

Don't get me wrong, I get what you're saying, but I just choose to use mine differently and appreciate the fact that it has the ability to beat up on almost everything I line up to, even if I don't feel the need to prove it daily. Look at it this way. By your thought process, the fact that I carry a gun every day means that I should be shooting people just because I have the power to do so - right?:dw:

back to answer OP. JUST because you have mods don't mean you beat the crap out of it. Some people do. some dont, get a good hand on the owner. If it's some idiot kid with the "why not use it answer" you might want to look else where. if it's a guy who appreciates it and you see takes time, and enjoys the car and machinery then you might consider buying. Just go out to lunch with the guy before you buy it.

apples to guns here, You don't carry a gun to shoot people you carry for personal protection.

A Whippled cobra that is not used to me is like the guy at the gun bash this weekend. Guy looked just like Bill gates and was open carrying a Hugh Desert Eagle. Man I sure he felt like a bad ass

oh no TVS owner. did you chime in on the other post?

Are you talking about the TVS vs 2.9 thread, I don't get involved with that, I only have 93 around me and think the TVS is setup best for pump. TQ is better than both the 2.3 and 2.9 whipples when run on pump and it makes about the same hp as the 2.9. If I had E85 around me and wanted to spend big money on a fuel setup I would have got a 2.9. But I don't so the TVS with letahls budget return kit and the 60#'s that were already in my car will more than cover the 600-650 hp the car will make

Interesting responses. I guess I am in between in that I don't take it to the track or redline the car but I sure do take it above 4000 rpm on a regular basis.

IMO, this car is not an investment or a very rare Auto Union. They are just plain fun to drive.

I make sure the car is maintained to the highest standards and is spotless 99% of the time, but I do drive it. Just can't imagine not wanting to take the car over 4000 rpm.

I do respect others points of view, just find them fascinating.

if no one beat the crap out of their cars, there wouldnt be the following/reputation you see with terminator.....whats the purpose of these hp mods if your not going to use it...otherwise chrome it and have car show queen....to each their own:beer:

I agree with you to a point. But you think all those money guys with ZR1's beat the crap out of there car all the time? I haven't drag raced in years, but myself like many others out there would like to have alot of hp even if there not going to use it all the time. One day I plan on making around 650rwhp, even then it likely won't see the drag strip.

Although everytime I take the car out, I do some spirited driving and go through the gears. It's not my dd so I want to make sure I can bang the gears decent, lol. I certainly don't beat the "piss" out of my car, and I get alot of crap from people saying I never get on it.

Op, maybe you should consider a nearly stock or just bolt-on cobra with lower miles. Then modify as money allows, that's my route.

OP,
Find the car you want in the market and then search that cars history to death on here. See if they race all the time, did they short cut on modding, have they had it in and out of the shop for repairs, etc. you get the idea. I can name 10 members right now who I would and would not buy a used TS car from. I purposely bought my car bone stock, and still ended up going Whipple, Kooks, etc. it's done right and was not cheap.
I don't push on my car as much now as I did with it stock, I think mostly because it gets up in speed so much quicker and I don't want a ticket. I do have fun with it, but do not abuse it. I didn't build it to brag on SVTP about what my numbers are, I have stock numbers posted in my sig. I built it for me, and to know that it's on tap if I want it, which I do occasionally. A properly built and tuned TS car is very reliable IMO.
good ones are out there, find one with a searchable history is what I would do.

Whats the point of not even occasionally taking it above 4000 rpm? Are you afraid you're going to break something? I don't beat the shit out of my car but I have definitely enjoyed every minute of owning it, can you guys say the same?

I'll put it like this. For me to enjoy my car, I don't have to beat on it. The cams cutting up at idle, the sound of the exhaust, and the feel of the car are the things I enjoy the most. Im not against rolling off in it if need be, but I want my car to last. Just my opinion.

Hey, that's all that matters then is that you enjoy it. The sound of the whine is intoxicating to me, plus the fact I put it up for winter I can't wait to hop in it and have it put me back in the seat! When it was my DD I rarely got on it, I knew what it can do and that's enough for me. Now that I have a truck I DD, I really miss the pull, the sound, the looks, everything about it.
