Would you ever make this plug with a bolt on top for easier applications? I feel like if the plug ever siezed the square fitting would strip like our OEM ones.

Oh yes. I'm aware that they don't need to be too tight. I don't over tighten mine, however with taking it off it seems to get stuck from the build up in the coolant system. I guess that's what causes it to get stuck?

Someone welded a 15mm nut onto my existing cap and the last two coolant flushes it was easy to take off. But it broke at the welds this last time and I was not able to burp the system due to the fitting being rounded out. So now I have to basically ruin the plug to get it off.

Just liked the control I had when removing it with the nut.

Was just looking at a thread a couple of days ago where a guy made him one on a lathe out of hex stock and left the top hex for a wrench. Made it because you can not buy or find them anymore like half the parts you want from Ford. I always put grease on the threads when I put it back in. Good deal for $20 and stainless.

For those having a hard time getting them out: heat them just a little with a propane torch and they are easy.

What could you guys do on one of your windage trays shipped to 38469? I just picked up some pistons & rings from Y'all last month. Also is there any benefits on the mmr tray compared to the canton tray. Please pm me price & info. Thanks

$154.99 shipped, the mmr tray is better because it has a built in gasket on both sides, scrapes oil better because it is closer to the crank and is 1/4 the weight.

+1 for a hex head. It's not the application torque that makes them such a pain to remove, it's the heat cycling and corrosion/gunk buildup. A SS plug might not corrode, but the rest of the system will, including the threads. I drilled half of my old one out after breaking almost every extractor tool and still couldn't remove the pieces. I ended up buying a new crossover section. If you thought the factory plug was tough to remove, imagine how fun it was to remove an entire 3/8" plug with the same square head.

I just went to the hardware store to pickup a 3/8" NPT plug with a large hex head should I need to do it again. It seals but the gasket would be nice. Given this is for the non-factory S/C crossover.

Like this:

If MMR made the same plug with the hex head it would be great, but $20 seems a little steep for hardware IMO. Granted it is SS, but a standard brass piece with a gasket and hex head for even $10 would be perfect.

Point taken, however for me the cost wouldn't negate the fact that if I had to destroy the plug to get it off and ruin the crossover tube then it would now be a more costly expense. The higher price justifies the insurance of ruining a good crossover tube.

bump for a good product
