That part I am not sure about, since I don't know what is considered in shipping weight and there seems to be quite a bit of speculation going on regarding that. Is it the actual weight of the car before it gets put on a hauler? Is it some arbitrary weight used for all cars regardless of trim level?

Info was found on one of these early build cars going to Galpin Ford

I was just reading the IMSA Continental Tire Sportscar Championship rules and specs this morning. The GT350R-C has a minimum weight (minus fuel and driver) of 3,400 pounds. (It was 3,350, but has already been hit with a 50 lbs "penalty.") That's for a completely gutted car with the requisite race safety equipment, 275/35-18" tire and wheel combo, one-piece driveshaft, etc. (A full fuel cell will add about 128 pounds, bringing the weight to ~3,528 pounds.) Add the street trim back in, and I predict the "base" GT350 will be well in excess of 3,700 pounds (closer to 3,800) and we'll be lucky if the R even touches 3,650 pounds. I was actually hoping it would be sub-3600, but I'm not as hopeful anymore. I'll guess ~3,680 curb weight for the R.

Ballast is added as necessary to bring a race car to its requisite spec weight for competition within class. Just as they are now doing in bringing the car from 3350 to 3400. Don't think the car happens to naturally be 3350 in race trim; that was the original weight specs defined by IMSA which they are now increasing.

What do you suggest the 3512 weight is in the shipping order link above?

This is correct, not really anything we can draw from the IMSA mininum weight. And that original 3350 weight included a full roll cage which can be 150lbs+

I'm looking at dropping about $100k on a GT350. Wife says if I get the car, she gets a new kitchen.

50k for car 50k for kitchen. With one comes the other. My brother-in-law has to match mods with diamonds for his wife. I think that is where my wife got the idea.

Talked to my dealer yesterday. They have no allocations for an R. :whine: Only 2 allocations for the "regular" GT350 next year and they're talking crazy markup on those. I pray Ford builds these things beyond 2017 model year because I don't see me being able to get one before the '17, and that's if I'm lucky!

I hope you're right!

(But the '17 might come with the black/white seat color combo from the show car.)

Funny - one of the 11 billion dealers I called rung me up today with a follow-up, and she had no idea what the GT350 was, or anything about the program. So I again gave her the 5 minute spiel and she's going to have the sales manager call me Monday when he gets back from vacation.

But I've otherwise pretty much given up for now - at least until these things are on the streets. Dealers are either so clueless about the release or using this car as a personal goldmine that the aggravation isn't worth the outcome. If I don't find the car I want at the price I want by next spring I'll just consider a 'Vette. Or build my own. (the latter more likely). Or get a Tesla Roadster v3.0 :rolling:.

I've yet to see a single "average joe" in this forum get an "R" - anyone that says they have is somehow "connected" (current/former dealer; buys 3 Fords a year; owns this website, etc). But it's great to see their cavalier comments on how easy it is to get one.

It's a great car - but not worth this ridiculousness. At least not for me.

This is all crap!
I live in West Palm Beach and I'd be willing to bet you could sell the complete allocation of these vehicles in this city alone.
Can someone explain the point of this to me?

Getting an R will be hard. Getting a regular car should be easy (relatively)

Just a heads up- read back 3 years in the gt500 forum. All the same things were said before the release. Yet most people paid at or below sticker
