I believe something like this happened in the Army a few years ago.

In my eyes a uniform is a uniform. When you signed up you signed up to wear a cover/cap/hat of said branch/organization. The reason we have uniforms is simple, UNIFORMITY!!!!

I guess I'll start a religion where I can wear red shoes in my Navy dress blues.
That's my view of it as well. Then again this issue is so low on my priority list I'm not going to spend any time worrying about it. This truly is the "me, me, me" generation.

By all means, go establish that religion, convert millions to do the same and live by it every single day...

If the army can suddenly change their cap to a gay-beret because of some fat Hawaiian, maybe they just need to change everyone to a turban. At least a turban is manly.

Sikhs served the colonial armies and British Empire for generations wearing turbans. This isn't some recent made up bullshit.

I read the article and it doesn't change my opinion . This topic is about Sikhs been allowed to wear turbans and quite frankly I really don’t care about the history and position of the Sikhs.

Every single applicant knows the uniform code when they apply or sign up for the job. I for one, am sick and tired of people signing up and then demanding changes. Nobody tricked anybody into the job.

Remember back in the day when America actually had traditions and understood the meaning of a simple word like, 'uniform'? I believe in diversity, but this is getting out of hand! This country is too busy accommodating foreigners and their religious rights! I'm glad there are no religions who are opposed to the colour red, otherwise we would be changing our flag for them.

Remember back in the day when a soldier would never wear their BDU in public?

Remember back in the day when soldiers wore hats and not Gay-Berets?

Remember back in the day when soldiers wore olive drab and not digital camo?

Remember back in the day when soldiers wore dark blue and beards?

Remember back in the day when they wore light blue and white with long hair?

Remember when cops wore dress shirts and ties instead of BDUs?

Remember when cops wore long coats and cowboy hats?

Remember when cops didn't have uniforms at all?

Remember when we didn't have cops at all?

Your acting like a uniform is some sacred religious attire. News flash, they change literally ever 10-15 years. So as long as it's standardized across the board, who cares?

The Sikhs are wearing a standardized turban with a standardized badge that matches the uniform. This is no different then when women have different covers, pants or skirt options to their uniforms.

How is this a "millennial" issue?
Sikhs have been aloud to serve in dozens of militaries and LE-agencies while wearing turbans for hundreds of years.

It's never been an "issue" here until recently because we've never had a significant Sikh population.

Also, remember when every US Army regiment got to pick its own uniform so they could all be unique beautiful snow flakes?

It's not just a millennial issue...it's the entire country both young and old at this point.

And your picture.....those were volunteer regiments that had to provide their own uniforms and weren't terribly organized.[

lol @ "...and this is SO much different than flying the Confederate flag because....

Unfnreal...and yet another in the long line of reasons why I will never go to NYC."

I thought the whole line of reasoning against this was that the beard and or head dress could possibly interfere with the standard issue gas masks. If not who the **** cares.

So 19th Century Colonial Army is included in that "young and old today"?

As I've stated before, uniform and dress regulation literally change every 15 years.

If this was the 19th Century still the idea that everyone should be clean shaved would be absolutely appalling and outlandish.

If this was the early 20th Century the idea that any adult age male would leave the house without a hat on would be consider idiotic and childish.

Cops and Soldiers no longer wear hats in public. I don't see you protesting...

The reason they wore those uniforms wasn't because they were self absorbed and non-conforming.

No, they wore it because they practiced a religion called Sikh in which they are required to have beards and not cut their hair....

Not much has changed since then and Sikhs today still have beards, don't cut their hair and wear turbans to wrap up their hair!!! OMFG!!

What's to say some officers want to wear top hats, cowboy hats, crown of thorns or maybe a flamingo on their head. Can they do so in the name of their religious beliefs?

I'm all for religious freedoms, but as stated above, it's about uniformity. You wear the uniform given to you.

Keep bending over America.

That is literally the stupidest shit I've heard all day.

Is their an established religion of men wearing cowboy hats?

You act like these guys made up Sikhism and this practice just to be different.

Tell me, did you pick to be a near agnostic Christian that holds nothing sacred? Or was that just the religion your parents gave you and you embraced?

Should the military only serve meals made with Pork? **** everyone else that doesn't eat pork for religious regions or meat for health and conscientious reasons?

Police departments have a hell of a lot more serious bullshit to worry about then someone wanting a uniformed Turban.

Also, by your logic, if I just made it required that everyone wear a turban, would that be okay?

Amen brother!!!!
I'm not against it because of ethnicity or religious beliefs. There are many ethnicities and religions in this Country, but when you are to put on the uniform, shouldn't it be the very same uniform throughout that specific workplace/workforce? I strongly think so.

So... you do realize there are a dozen or more variants of NYPD uniforms, right?

Campaign Hats, Base Ball Caps, Helmets, short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, winter beanies, ear muffs, Russian hates, ties, no ties, turtle necks, several types of trousers, several types of boots and shoes. Dark Blue shirts, light blue shirts. Long jacket, short jacket, summer jackets.

^I see three hats and two types of pants.

I see 4 types of pants, 3 types of shoes, 5 types of jackets, and three types of shirts.

I see guys with hats, guys without, several types of shoes, pants and jackets.

Yet another style of hat...

So seriously, why is it burning your bridges so bad that they added an additional approved type of head gear? It's not like these guys sued them for discrimination and are trying to cash out. It's not like they can just wear whatever turban they want.

Yup. Totally can't tell they are in uniform. Look like a bunch of unprofessional hipsters in cut offs and flip flops.

Please tell me about radical Sikhism and all the problems they are causing in the world....

And your "non-racist" point is that Sikhism is not dangerous, but other races/religions are?
Please, tell me more.

My "non-racist" point is I'm not confusing Sikhs with ISIS, the Taliban or Al Queda and using that as excuse to why someone can't wear a turban.

How do you feel about the Army's use of the Gay-Beret?

No kidding, right?!?! **rolls eyes**
I never said anything about different variants of the uniforms.
You're missing my point bro. The point,.........either the whole force is wearing turban or caps. Looks like the majority in the photos you supplied are wearing caps to me, no?!?
And if you ask me, I say stick with the caps. No turbans. Thanks. ;)
