You should always measure the air gap when installing a clutch. Different clutch manufacturers recommend different values. Generally speaking though, the RXT and RST go right in and do not need a shim behind the slave.
Good to know, I'm using the RXT, I check & make sure it's within spec anyways, thx

My car is Magnum swapped. It blew the slave cylinder at the track. We pulled it out....it needs shimmed almost 1"! This also happened to Sean with his Boss (also Magnum Swapped). I'm not waiting a month on shims so my buddy welded me up a piece.... Anything solid will work.

Talked to Spec and they said no shim for a stage 2 or 3 clutch with oem tob and T56.
Ill try to measure it to confirm, i read that the gap should be the same on both side, something like .10..

Me and Sean are running a custom spec 2 + hybrid with aluminum pressure plates and flywheels. Not sure if that's the reason or not.

I also am installing a 2+ with hybrid option but with the regular pp and Spec flywheel. Ill definitely keep an eye on this..
So you're saying that originally you and close to a 1in gap between the slave and pressure plate ?

The spacer for an mt82 can be used as a slave shim, so I'm not sure who is confused here. And I wouldnt say never, with my magnum swap and clutch, fly combo I needed 1" of slave spacer/shim for the clutch to work properly

You guys are confusing the spacer from the MT82 with a shim for a slave cylinder.

The MT82 case in the earlier 2011 mustangs was too shallow for the 05+ slave cylinder that ford uses. As such, they included a spacer for the first batch of transmissions that were built but they subsequently had a new case machined which had the proper spacing.

In these pictures you can clearly see the difference in depth in the old vs new style MT82 case.

If you have a T56, you will NOT need to use the spacer, regardless of what year car you have because the issue was with the MT82 casing, and not the slave cylinder.

I'd say with every swap, remeasure.

is everyone using the 13'14 gt500 slave like they are saying we should, or using their GT slave?

Just did the clutch on my 11, installed a Mcleod Extreme Street.

Its somewhat vague regarding the spacer. It mentions that several part numbers need the spacer, although it doesn't say all others don't use the spacer.

My 11' had a spacer behind the slave cylinder already so I re-used, but I don't know if it was needed or not.
