Sadly I'm sure they will sell even if they arrive with an echarger. Who will be the first domestic oem to bring forth a factory TT 4v V8? Possibly chevy with the next gen (mid-engine) zr1?

Didn't ford shelve a 7.0l Dohc v8 in 2005-6 when they started the gt500 program? It was during the time when they shelved the IRS and that engine iirc.

Maybe they picked the idea back up and are going to run with it.

There were spy shots released today that showed a camouflaged gt350r (nose, hood, wheels, fenders etc) cruising with a zl1 (article didn't say if 6th or 5th gen, I'd hope they'd be employing a 6th gen).

Thing is, the hood on that gt350r had a power dome kind of similar to 2nd gen vipers. Low and sleek where it could be, but taller in the center.

A 7.0 v8 dohc would be a proverbial hp factory.

Lamborghini and Ferrari make 750-800hp na from 6.5L v12's. Ford could make a 700hp na v8 from 7L that would be very enjoyable at any rpm.
I believe you're thinking about the 6L V10 they were developing for the Cobra concept. They couldn't get it to meet emissions back then. It would be awesome, if they could pull it out of the mothballs and get it to work with today's emissions.

Sent from my BlackBerry. The blacker the 'Berry, the sweeter the use!

Are you sure it's not the "777" he's referring to? 7.0L, 700HP and 7000rpm IIRC. Boss based 2 valve.

I mean this one:

I got the displacement wrong, though. It was 6.4L, not 6L. It was used in both the Shelby Cobra concept and the Shelby GR-1 concept. (I'm still hoping and wishing the GR-1 becomes a reality.)

With the apparent popularity of the new multispeed dual clutch automatics, I would speculate the next GT 500 will feature the Raptor's 10 speed automatic. Should that be the only available trans, I suspect demand for our old school 6 speed manuals would increase.

That's a regular torque converter automatic, not a dual clutch.

Agreed. Not happening despite the massive performance gap between 10A and 6M.

A "performance" gap only in a straight line. Checkout the test(s) between the 10-speed ZL1 and the 6-speed manual ZL1. The 6-speed is quicker around the track. Same thing happened with the 8-speed auto Z06 and the 6-speed manual. The manual Z06 was quicker around the track. I'm hoping the next GT500 won't offer a torque converter automatic, but if it does, I suspect it will be the same result. The manual equipped car will be quicker around a track.

I haven't seen the 10a zl1 vs 6m 1le zr1 direct comparison yet but wasn't the vettes 8a loss to 6m due to overheating?

That's a lot of TQ multiplication options to lose out on when not on track.

Fingers crossed for both options. If Porsche can do it with the 991.2 GT3...

The vid's on YouTube of the zl1 side by side comparison.

If you can drive wit both feet and both hands well, beating a flappy paddle gear box is doable. Randy shows that to be the case in the video.

Just don't expect a magazine writer to duplicate the results all too often.

No such thing as a 6-speed manual C7Z.

That 7th ratio is a defector. It only wants to work at 70mph and up. Lazy ass gear. It does absolutely nothing to help the car move around at anything but very high speed. Near as makes no difference, the car is a 6spd. That 7th is a French communist.

But on a serious note, the 7spd manual is just awkward. Im not used to seeing it in 911's either.

Yep the 7th gear is useless other than MPG, but no-lift shift and rev matching capabilities are nice.
