Ordered a set of R calipers for my car and our parts dept got them in today.

Wow are they massive. Sure we know they are large on the car but in your hand .... they are mammoth.

That and the R steering wheel was ordered and will go on sometime in the next week or so

Confused. If they're the same size, why even bother buying them? If it's just to have some red calipers, a red powder coat job would've been significantly cheaper.

Correct ... but I work at a dealership and bought them at cost plus 10% and wont have any down time with my car sitting on jackstands while the grey ones get powdercoated.
I wanted red so the color would stand out of the wheels ... you could hardly see the gray calipers
Cost was the same and I get the real deal ..
It was a no brainer

Gotta say I'm pretty shocked at how inexpensive the calipers are from Ford. Almost considering buying a spare set to have on hand JIC.

Check the one guys build thread on here. He went to R calipers. They are same as normal ones just red. He upgraded the caliper bolts too and sells them now.

He posted a picture of the gt350 pad next to the gt500 pad (both 6 piston) and it is double the size.

R calipers...identical to non-R calipers except for surface finish. Great brakes, just wish they had thicker pads!

I spoke to him a few days ago by phone ... I was definitly impressed with the product
Since I dont track the car he wasnt sure if it was necessary but I can say this: if i start tracking the car I will be swapping them out asap
A great product

I have a set of the Caliperfexion studs waiting to go on the car. I planned to do it at the first pad swap, but didn't have the jam nuts with me at the track so I re-used the stock bolts.

By the way, slightly off topic but are any others experiencing getting rocks kicked up into the wheel that then get caught and drag between the caliper and wheel barrel? Happening to me on the front wheels where the caliper to wheel clearance is really tight. Is this just a function of the super-sticky tires on the R?

Tammer, life is short. Get those studs on!:)

You are not alone with respect to debris getting trapped between the barrel of the wheel and the caliper. It happens across the board and even more so with those using a wheel such as the 6GR as it has even less clearance there than the stock wheels do. A 20" wheel would mitigate the issue but that probably isn't the best way to address it.

Would adding a layer of PPF to the inner wheel drum to lessen the small space help? If we can deny access between the caliper and wheel, what would we end up with? Or would getting too close cause other issues?

You aren't going to be denying any "access" between a GT350 caliper and the wheel. Trust me.

Very similar to the space I have between my front calipers and wheel on my Viper. It about makes me cringe. I haven't had an issue yet though.

Unless you have an issue with oblong wheels or some serious deflection, there doesn't need to be much clearance between the wheel and caliper.

No, I agree with you. A lot of Viper guys have had little pieces of gravel get between the caliper and wheel and tear the shit out of both.

I guess I'll just keep knocking on wood.

How thick are they new?

Oh thanks Nick. Didn't know I needed something else to worry about.
