Whatever happens, happens this evening (Sunday). Every few years I switch from Apple to Samsung just to see what's up on the other side. Ultimately, though, I revert back to Apple and stay for awhile until trying again.

Anyone moved from a 7 Plus to an S8+, or have an S8+ that they wanna share their experience with? Thanks in advance.

To my limited knowledge your trading phones with the same basic features and or strengths. One is not better or faster than the other.

It's all about the operating system. And since you've worked with both in the past you will have a pretty good idea what to expect.

My thoughts.

The iPhone is much more secure than Samsung through the operating system. Both phones have their merits. USA Today had a great comparison write up today on both phones. I stick with iPhone.

The only real loss that I'm worried about is the ability to FaceTime. It's nice to be able to do with far away family or with my son through his sitter (my father and stepmother). I know Facebook Messenger allows for video calls too, but I'm not sure it's something my father and/or stepmother knows how to use. Hmmm...

Use DUO to Android people. Only S8 complaint is the fingerprint reader sucks.

Wait for the pixel. You may want to try a "pure" Android experience instead.

I wouldn't buy anything but a Pixel/Nexus grade android. It's properly built and designed.

I have gone from android to iPhone and back multiple times. This go round, I have a 7 and will probably stick with iPhone again by jumping to an 8 plus.

I like my S8+ a lot. I would probably swap it for Note 8, but I don't really have a reason to.

I like the expandable memory in the Samsungs. I do not like the curved screen, instead of a <$200 screen replacement, it's a $470 replacement.

Both are great devices IMO and it really comes down with preference. Im a bigger Samsung/Android fan and love my whole I can pretty much do anything and customize almost anything. iOS came a long way but still lacks in some departments but its an OS that just works which a lot of times is more than you can ask for.

For me, my only grip with Android is the slowdown’s it gets after certain time owning, not sure if it has to do with apps or stuff not being fully deleted. Most of the time you need to delete your cache to have it somewhat fresh again.

I usually get my slowdowns and battery rapid drains after 6 months. Had that issue with the S5, S6, S7. My S8 soo far has been holding great! So having my fingers crossed!

That's another reason I'm skeptical about switching. I just ask for my phone to work. I need great photos and a relatively simple OS. I don't care about 'breaking' a phone, encryption, special locking features, etc.

In my experience, and I haven't used a "pure" android phone like pixel or nexus, but samsungs take work compared to iOS. I was constantly chasing down rogue apps that were draining battery ridiculously fast. Constantly clearing cache and closing out of applications to maintain performance and battery life.

Even when my phones ran great (including my note 7), I never got the same battery life as an iphone gets. iOS does all the little things right. There isn't any freedom to iOS, and Android often has more features, but when iOS finally supports it, it is often far more polished.

If the rumored benchmark tests are true, qualcomm is probably 2-3 years behind the A11 chipset in speed tests.

Samsung seems to have far better hardware on the s8/note 8 than the iphone x has, at least on paper it does, but its hard to compete with how polished ios is.

I do believe the latest qualcomm chipsets in androids will allow far greater download speeds than ios, but networks won't realistically have them rolled out for 2-3 more years to most people.

I like the freedom android offers, and I like a lot of android phones better, but its hard to deny apple has a far easier software experience. The iphone 6 i'm using gets better battery life than the Note 7 I had, and is just as fast.

I'm going to wait and see how reviews and comparisons between the iphones, note 8, and pixel xl come out in a couple months. iPhone hardware doesn't appear to be anything to brag about as the screen won't be as good as samsung and half as bright, i'm tired of touchwiz, and i'm not sure if the pixel will be anything special either.

I do agree with you on the OS. It seems like the apple phones need less to do more, in my experience.

The locked down interface is a double edged sword. You either deal with less freedom, or potentially have a buggier setup.

Truth be told, both phones are incredible and it's really up to user preference. I was pretty set on moving to a Pixel XL as my early 6 plus is showing signs of wear (battery has a noticeable loss of performance) but I think I'll like the 8 plus. I want a good battery life, fast phone and good pictures is about all.

They are all great phones, but in a way I feel like we all have to make more compromises than ever lol. Apparently 6gb of ram in the note 8 is doing well at keeping it running faster than touchwiz and poor ram management can slow it down. It can apparently keep up to 30 apps open in the background. You can barely eek out 4 hours SOT and you have to forgo consistent security and software updates though.
