Vortech VS ON3 single turbo

I currently have a 99 Cobra that I'm trying to turn into a street machine, with that in mind I've come down to two options for boost: Vortech Centri or On3 single turbo system.

The first part of the part of my plan would be getting the car close to 500 horse before I build what needs to be built.

For your awareness, here's what I have done already:
Mach 1 block, 98 Cobra Cams, 03 cobra milled C heads (getting high compression from that), 4.10s, 42lb injrctors, E85 tune.

I'm trying to get opinions from people that have dealt with each kit and can give me some info in terms of price of the kit (Including what else I'll need in supporting mods), reliability, pros and cons, and any other info you can think of.

I really appreciate anything I can get from you guys, thanks in advance! (Here's a pic of the cobra)

I haven't dealt with On3 stuff, but I've dealt with Hellion. Something I've learned in my research is if you're going to go with a turbo you might as well look into custom. Everyone seems to end up changing enough parts and pieces that's what ends up happening anyway. If you don't have the means or skills then go with the blower.

Personally I prefer Procharger over Vortech. Just personal opinion.

Never had an On3 kit for a new edge but have had and dealt with enough 4.6 mustangs that I know a positive displacement blower or turbo would be the only FI I'd use on those cars. I do have an On3 kit on my 2011 and have nothing but good things to day about it.

Cool thanks for the input

Subscribing. 98 here, but I've been contemplating this for the last few months. My builder/shop actually suggested the On3 twin kit. It's oy another $400 for the base kit I believe. He has installed several. He told me the On3 kits take a few dry runs to get everything adjusted just right and whatnot, but for the price they are tough to beat.

I'm torn between a D1SC, and the On3 kit. I doubt I'd go with the twin kit though. My car just arrived at the shop on Friday.

Between those I'd go with the D1. But then I really liked my D1. I hated the Vortech T trim I ran for a bit. And then I loved my F1A. If set up right a centri can blow the tires off just as good as a PD blower.

Yeah the price is super tempting. There's a few supporting mods like a tubular k member that's like 800 bucks, plus the fuel mods that kind of bring it up in price though. The centris are more or less just another bolt on whereas you are gonna be do I g a lot more work on the turbo setup. With it being that complicated that just makes more room for error I feel like.

I'm not an expert obviously but that's why I can't decide.

We are thinking very alike. I want dependability first and the centris seem to edge out the turbos. But the turbo is sooooo tempting. As the time gets closer I will need to figure something out.

What did you dislike about the T trim compared to the D1 (besides the intercooler)
I didn't like the bracket. I had the 8 rib set up so everything spaced out. In order to get my blower off I had to loosen the ABS module and drain the cooling system. And I had to grind the bracket to clear the Thump tensioner. The Procharger set up was so much easier.

It probably also depends on your end game horsepower goals. Turbo will probably end up making more. But like me I'm looking for 750-800 in the end. Just 500 before building though

A PD Blower OR turbo is a pretty involved process with a 99-01 Cobra. Parts have to swapped out etc... I agree with slo984 if going a turbo route custom for the win.

Can't really blame the head unit for that type of stuff, haha..

It was just the entire design I didn't like. I had an easier time fitting the F1A. Like I said, it's a personal opinion. I still recommend Vortech to anyone looking.

My personal opinion is centri. I built everything around 2014 to go with a turbo set up. Built motor, tube k and fuel system. I got the car back together and drove it NA for a bit and the coil overs and tube k member killed it for me. I ran a 14" 175lb spring up front and the creaks, squeaks and harshness I felt killed all the fun. I pulled the drivetrain and sold it. Cleaned up the car and put it under a cover. I hated the way it felt. The turbo route sounds fun but the compromises Needed to make it work just aren't worth it.
