I will admit, LOL, that some of the pictures come from a thread on another forum that is titled "post a random picture" :)

I see weatherman posting some WWII pics.... this my still alive grandfather and his crew. He was the navigator on the caboose as she was named because they were always tail end Charlie in the bomber formations. He's bombed Iwo Jima, Guam and Okinawa. Been shot down and has Purple Heart. He's the only surviving member of his crew today. Back row far right.

My father-in-law. R.I.P.
P-51 Maintenance crew chief.
Which always cracked me up because when I met him at age 62 he wasn't exactly sure which way to screw in a light bulb. But he was a great guy. Grew up dirt poor, missing meals, and got out of the boondocks like lot of folks did back then.
Enlist.

He sent himself to school after the war, married a beauty (my MIL, who I feed lunches to in the nursing home now), and he made good.

The reason it cracked me up is because before I knew what he did in the air force I was always the guy they would call to fix the littlest things, not their son. I mean, to set the alarm clock, or reset the answering machine. I did repairs around their house and never thought anything of it because most folks aren't as nutsy boltsy as a lot of us here. It was well known by the women of the house (his wife and my wife) that he couldn't fix anything.

He and I were sitting around chewing the fat one day talking about guy stuff. My dad had been in the army air force just like my FIL had so I asked my FIL what he did in the air force.
When he said, "Maintenance crew chief on P-51's" I really thought he was kidding and I just burst out laughing. I was laughing so hard he couldn't help but start laughing. I was just so surprised. Then he showed me some of his pictures. I apologized, but it actually was hilarious because he always looked over my shoulder when I was fixing his stuff, and would try to surpervise, which in itself was always funny because he never knew what I as doing.

Part of the greatest generation no doubt. My grandfather loved seeing P-51s as his escort fighter.
