Watching CNBC and they likened BTC to more of a digital gold since everyone is just holding it. Something as volatile as this can't be used as currency; too much risk for the merchant. They might sell something for a loss overnight.

Wish I would've gotten in and to you fellas that have made %1500 percent I would take some profits. Can't believe I hadn't heard about this until a month ago.

All of this negativity towards cryptocurrency...Because FIAT (google the definition of FIAT) currency, stock markets, etc. have never failed, crashed, or anything like that.

The USD holds value how? It isn’t backed by anything, other than the fact that we are taught to believe it is valuable. How many people use physical currency versus debit cards, credit cards, paypal, etc.? If the physical dollar was eliminated & put entirely on a digital system, why would that be an issue since that is the common use today (cards, electronic payments, etc.) I remember a few years back I read that only 8% of the world’s debt is represented by physical currency. Idk how true it was, but we all know that there is at least a good big of truth to that.

Crypto will be adopted. Systems will shift to it. Will it be regulated & not decentralized like it was intended to e, most likely. I don’t see the big deal here, other than people are butt hurt that people are making money hand over fist because they were early entrants into this market.

If you know cryptography & are a pro-cypherpunk...you’ll understand this crap. Do some research before you start hating. I have a 401k. So, you really trust the organization that handles the money that you don’t actually see, other than on a statement they send you with all those pretty numbers showing the value of your account?

I’m content with my ~2000% returns in less than a year though.

Someone on reddit is holding 5,700 coins, over 86 million dollars, and started a charity to donate 5,000 of them to good cause. He's a better man that I. I would dump 500 right now into cash, couple homes, countless cars, and live my days like a rockstar.

I'm done arguing with everyone on here because I'm not the expert, but I have done enough research to know that it is going to stick around and play a big part in our lives in the future. Your points are solid and I agree completely. I actually wouldn't mind if it crashed because I would love to buy at rock bottom and watch it rise again. It's not going anywhere because the potential of its capabilities is there and they are solid. It's not just a fake currency that people have hyped up to where we are playing one big Monopoly game with online.

A great example I heard was that when Zimbabwe experiences 1000% inflation and their money becomes useless then cryptos will be utilized immediately as shops and stores will be forced to find a means to continue their business thus making their national currency irrelevant. With it in place, nations will no longer be able to manipulate and continue printing money at will. This will take time but it will happen.

small edit

I've spent a lot of the past five years worrying about the $300K in unfunded future obligations that is saddled on every man, woman and child in the US. I finally decided that if the rest of the world wants to believe the US dollar is worth something, I guess I will too, until it isn't.

And I have structured my investments accordingly.

Yeah, The Pineapple Fund.

I’m sitting on ~$300k from about a $12.5k investment, just in bitcoins right now. I have about 100 Litecoins now since I bought in for about 35 & day traded some (bought lows, sold highs, repeat). I have some money in Ripple, IOTA, Monero, ARK, & looking at a few others as well.

If I lose my small investment...oh ****ing well. It’s gambling, just like anything associated with the stock market or other forms of investment.

You guys realize why it is going up right? It isn't magic, or arbitrary, it's hype.

It's not like Bitcoin will just magically increase in value forever, and i honestly cant believe it's lasted this long... it is literally worthless, it's just everyone buying in from someone who was willing to sell at a lower price. You're all (or they're all, whichever) just giving money to each other and it makes no damn sense... how they're saying this is just going to keep going up and up and up is beyond me. Once people realize they've spent money on something worthless and theres no one left to buy because the price is outrageous ... what happens then? We've got thousands, if not millions in a bubble that instantaneously becomes worthless.
The crazy thing is that the gamble is literally on a non existent item.

I was reading about how in Kenya, they use cell phone minutes as currency. Few have bank accounts, but a majority have cell phones. You can transfer minutes easily, so minutes have become their currency in a sense. It's direct, user to user.

....that's what bitcoin can/could be in the future. I wouldn't need Chase to send money.

I'm just curious what would happen if tomorrow, that guy says I want my money. Or lets say a large amount of the people that bought bitcoins at under $1000. Is there a bitcoin bank somewhere with enough cash to pay?

Looking at Ripple. But holy crap there is no easy way it seems to buy without going thru hoops. Hopefully coinbase adds them next yr as well as some of the other ones.

If you have to sit on here and try to justify it to people on the internet, you're obviously worried lol. That's part of the strategy, hype it up and brag about your profits in an attempt to get other people to buy in.

I'm not saying you're wrong for doing it, I'm just saying I understand your intentions. Its the same thing I try to do when I'm worried about a decision I made. The more I talk about it, the better I feel. I probably heard about bitcoin well before you as a computer science guy. Would I have bought in knowing what I know now? Absolutely. But I also feel secure enough in my salary/investment choices I don't need to post about it on SVTP to make myself feel better. Sell now and run if you're smart.

Yup...my heavy interest in cryptography, or my extensive knowledge in systems engineering definitely makes me scared of this & know that it’s complete crap. Get out of here with that bullshit. Cryptocurrency is the future. Bitcoin may not be, since there’s a bunch of cryptos that are much more secure, quicker, advanced, etc. Bitcoin is the poster child of the crypto movement. Ethereum will probably be the basis of most crypto in the future, since numerous already rely on it. So yes, bitcoin is mehh in my eyes. It’s overvalued, but other cryptos like the ones I have mentioned are already in transition of use by major companies, systems, etc.

And to say you knew about this before me, but failed to invest anything into it...sounds like you’re the smarter guy here. I use BNN (if you’re a computer science guy, you should know what this is) to forecast crypto prices, I don’t have to run since I am in fact smart. I’m not worried about losing my small investment really anyway, wanna know why? I’ve already cashed out a little more than my initial investment when Litecoin was in the high $300s.... So if I lose, it’s like nothing happened. But, since you’re a great investor, why not shed some light on your secrets that yielded great ROI...

I doubt a majority of the archaic minded individuals on this forum would be set on investing in something so confusing to them. They probably couldn’t even setup something as simple as a Coinbase account. So no, I wasn’t expecting anyome to jump on board. I was merely replying to a post regarding Bitcoin & since I am well versed in it, I shed a little knowledge on it.

I think most of us came in here to talk about it with other buyers, not hear all the negative comments. Not saying you are wrong in giving your opinion as that is what this thread seems to be created for, but I'm not interested in going rounds with anyone whether it is right or wrong. I'd rather talk to people like Hasselhoff about his thoughts rather than try to change your mind or anyone else's. For the sake of discussion I have kept participating but it I really don't have all the answers and nobody does. It is what it is and it is our money so why do you care so much?

I’ll use his logic here...because he failed to get in on it, so he wants us all to sell so the price plummets & he can get in for cheap. Ya know, since I’n hyping it up to get every on board & I can make mass profits from their stupidity... #TheyMad

I'm mad that I waited so long to get in on it. I knew enough about it in 2012 that I should have paid closer attention but I didn't and now I'm kicking myself. I may PM you in the future to pick your brain on a couple things, mainly Ethereum as that is the one I got a good impression about after reading up on it.
