Good God there are over 100 cryptocurrencies. Most of which seem to be tanking.
https://finance.yahoo.com/cryptocurrencies

Given the nature of cryptocurrency I'm not sure I consider single digit daily losses to be "tanking". Most of my investment is in Litecoin and it's up 9% today as I type this.

The transactions take so long I don't know how you can even make money.

I ordered some like 3 days ago and I don't even haven them yet.

Ya, earlier this week Coinbase wouldn't even take my CC for purchases as the system was overloaded and I had to use my bank account. The LTC I bought still won't be delivered until next week. Can't sell if I don't have the coins...

You went through a bank account? If so that is why. Im still waiting for my purchases though my account to be added to my wallet but at least it locks in your price still. That is why I added a credit card. Purchases are instant with the card so you might as well do that and then just pay it with what you were planning to use from your account. Earn the points.

it show where you bought it at X price though, so isn't it just a delay and you're gaining/losing just like everyone else?

Well that's bullshit. It recommended doing the bank account or I would have just done CC.

I tried signing up for kraken yesterday but I never got a confirmation email from them.

I don't think some of these companies expected this amount of traffic. They are getting their asses handed to them with business. But those $3 fees are probably killer when you're trading tens of thousands of transactions a week.

Yes, that's true. Im sitting on Ethereum for the long term mainly so whatever I have pending doesn't really matter. The price is locked in and they said it will hit my account by the 16th.

As far as other outside cryptos go, is XRP and IOTA recommended? I had heard that Microsoft is considering using IOTA for online purchases. I was told to buy some but am still wary.

Did you guys really give your bank login to coinbase? That is just mind boggling to me.
They are FDIC insured and Chase has had my back on everything so far.

This isn't even the first app I've used that is like that, I'm sure given how many people use it, if there was an issue, they would be going after someone else with deeper pockets lol.

I guess, I'm just weary of giving them that. So I went the long route and patiently waiting for my two small deposits to link my account. Probably ****ed myself out of billions because of it, lol.

It's one thing valuing a company, another a possible currency.

Aren't they sort of one in the same? They're a business on the subject of currency. Our notion of currencies now is based of nation-owned, not individual-owned.

I look at it like this, the dollar in people's minds is worth a certain value in goods or services. Billions of people's minds. Bitcoin if it gets to currency status doesn't have even a remotely stable value in people's heads yet and a low, fixed quantity.

But as someone who has researched it some, I dont see it as a currency replacement. I only see it as another means to make purchases and do other things that these coins have designed into them, very useful things. Not once have I ever thought it would replace the dollar or whatever, but I still see value in the technology.

I actually dont think they could exist without established currencies. Just how the dollar is supposed to be backed by gold, the cryptos need to be backed by the dollar for the time being.

Agree, but FIAT currencies (e.g. USD), are not backed by anything...
