Disclaimer: This thread is not for actually selling firearms (forum rule), only to discuss legal means of doing so.

I've had around 10 firearms up on Armslist for several months and get nothing but drooling idiots trying to talk me down to practically giving the things away. It's worse than Craigslist. I'm thinning the collection down to just a few and trying to fund the '69 resto project at the same time.

Does anyone know of a better place to sell firearms to responsible new owners (legally of course)? I won't do flea-markets or gun shows.

You're in SC?

www.carolinashootersclub.com I used to mod there until it was sold to a left coast media company a year ago. 20,000 members, and there is a tone of classified activity there. In fact, that's about all it is now. It's not nearly as closely moderated as it used to be, but better than armslist.

When it was sold, about 1500 of the top posters and moderators set up www.carolinafirearmsforum.com and there is an active classified section there now. It is more closely moderated

Oh, I will definitely check that out then!

I don't mind selling these at a minor loss if it means I get to start on the next project while it's still chilly out. Problem is, I keep getting these awful hagglers. I have a stainless, ported Deagle-brand-deagle 50ae that has had 3 rounds through it- people offer "duhh I gotz $300 best I can do." I don't want to sound like the "aughhh" type, but it's damn near insulting that they'd waste my time for such offers.

There is a feedback system at both the two places I mentioned so it doesn't have the anonymity of armslist (and craigslist) and quite as much of the inherent BS, although you might encounter some more at CSC.

I just registered- read the rules but it didn't say anything about multi-thread vs single-thread preferences.

If I want to list 10 firearms at the same time, do they want 10 separate ads?

I'm keeping my heirlooms, ccw, and NFAs, but the rest are being liquidated.

I personally would post separate ads. I wouldn't post them all at once, or bump them all at once every few days. if you post them all at once someone will first demand to know if you are an FFL or vendor (they charge extra for vendors to be fair to existing vendors).

I title mine like this.. "For sale (or trade), Colt 1911 Series 80 Government, blued, Mytown, NC"

Then post pics, a good description, any trade interests and a price. I put location in the subject so people know if they are close enough to do business without having to wade into my post.

Great thread. I'm on the look out for a starter upper for the AR15. Got a PSA Magpul MOE lower on super christmas deal a year ago and have been dragging my feet to find an upper. Would rather not go buy a big money one yet until I learn the ways of the basic rifle, and upgrade from there.

The only thing I'll say about the two Carolina forums I posted. There always seems to be a lot more activity in NC for some reason, so I know our SC guys would get a little frustrated. Not sure why that was, but the sites are free, and you'll meet some nice folks. I met some of my current best friends and got involved in matches as a result of buying/selling/trading guns, ammo, and gear at those sites over the past half dozen years.

Must be the area, I've always had excellent luck on Armslist.

When I'm ready to move on to something else, I price mine very aggressively. If I think it's worth $1,000, I'll post it at $925 firm; typically sells within 1 or 2 days. My time is worth more to me than the $75-100 it would cost me.

If I want to dump a gun I just sell it back to a dealer or let them put it on consignment. I agree. I ain’t got time to deal with the public and all their bullshit.
yes, and yes.

I often sell them to friends at a huge discount to avoid unnecessary drama

I'm pricing mine very aggressively and still get either no real bites or the tirekicker sunken-boat trader crowd.

I did manage to trade one of my rifles for a nice Snap-on toolbox (friend/co-worker). I think he got a better monetary deal out of it, but it was worth it to me since I only used the rifle once in 3 years and I've used the toolbox 100+ times in a couple months...

One thing I've discovered, unlike Cobras, people don't want to pay for upgrades or mods to a gun, and sometimes it can even diminish the value, unless it's a very common or highly desired upgrade, like an Apex FSS trigger to replace the crappy trigger in an M&P.

Between $350 and $1750. Selling everything from a Walther PK380 to an SS DE50. The only one that I have priced high is the DE50- just under retail plus $60 of ammo.

That's the truth. That's also why I'm trying to negate the upgrade costs and just focus on the firearm and the ammunition costs. Figure the accessories are more of a bonus than anything.

I also tend to have better luck selling parts, pieces and gear separately from a gun I'm getting rid of. Some folks try to sell the gun, gear, holsters, etc all together and expect someone to want it all, and buyers just usually don't.
