Wait, are you saying most people have owned 1k+ HP race cars? I sure hope not LOL

No I meant Novas, Camaros, Mustangs, Monte Carlos, Mopar, GTOs, Firebirds etc. Regardless of horsepower, most people have fond memories of their own muscle or family/fiends muscle cars. Hence why people get sucked into the show.

Can't watch it. Never could get interested in it.
No prep? For years we raised hell if track prep sucked. Now they purposely do not prep? For what a "Street feel"?
Yet they prep the **** out of the street where real street races happen?
Dumb as **** IMO to run cars like that on the street.
I would like to see crash history lets say compared to real NHRA Division racing just to see.

I have yet to go down a non prepped track. That surface is worse than any street. I would prefer bare concrete vs a well used, unprepped track.

I plan to go to Orangeburg and watch the chaos in person. The cars basically become ice skates. They are almost impossible to control.

If one of you gentlemen know how to contact JJ, let me know. I have a friend that wants to put a race together.

No, I don't mess with Facebook, and don't plan on starting. No Instagram or other BS, with the exception of Twitter.

I wouldn't use Twitter, but a lot of my clients use it, and we don't have to deal with the ridiculousness of other social networks.

Agree, but these race cars are only a Nova or Camaro or whatever by some small part of the body maybe at this point

Very true, but most people that love muscle cars see these particular cars as the ultimate vision of one that they would want to own. car guys that are in the hobby know these cars are steel bodies race cars.

To the general public, these are 1970 Split bumper Camaros, 1969 Pontiac GTOs, 5th gen Camaros and fox body Mustangs etc.

I agree, I like the idea that (in theory) I could build up my terminator like Chris Hamilton BoostedGT. Stock frame rails front and back, and on a small tire.

Same reason why I always liked NASCAR stock car racing from the 50's/60's/early 70's. Much more relatable to something you could actually buy from the showroom.

Okay my two cents for what it is worth. Waaay back in the day when I partook in these things it was run what you drove up in. There were no trailered non street legal racers. So most all the top rides were big block chevys of one type or another. There were some street gassers and they were the closest to what a true race car there. Yeah times change but to me it has lost the feel of street racing and becomes just another reality show.

As much as I enjoy SO OKC, it's about time I stopped watching. 4 separate SO shows is just stupid, and not needed. They are just going to flood us with SO until it's run into the ground.
What a shame.
Or until someone dies at which point all 4 shows are canceled

Just a different perspective here. Philly had all of that and then some 20 years ago. It wasn’t a majority, but probably 20-30% of the cars racing weren’t street legal, on full slicks, or trailered in. I lost track of how many 4-wheelers I saw riding around, but remember those guys LOVED running from the cops. It was a 3 ring circus downtown every Sunday evening. Highlight of that time for me was watching Ricky Gadsen racing and taking big money from one person after another. Ironically, he trailered his bike into town.

Holy crap, I'm not the only person here that knows Ricky Gadson. That man is a monster on a bike.

They were in Tucson International Raceway last month filming. Pretty awesome time from what I heard! There is a reason why Street Outlaws ratings and racing in general has ticked up. There are tons of people that love racing, and while I love NHRA drag racing, its not something the average person will ever be able to do.

Meanwhile, Street Outlaws has cars that most everyone has either owned, family has owned or been in crews that have raced these cars or just been in the car scene in general.

The drivers in the shows aren't some superstar Top Fuel pro driver. Its just average, everyday guys and gals that know how to build big power cars and get them down the street.

THAT is the connection. Most people know a dad, uncle, mom, aunt, sister, brother, cousin that races. And its a family event too. Every episode you see every driver has loved ones there, either operating as their crew or just there for support.

Well stated!! It's much easier to have a connection with the regular, hard-working SO guys driving those cars that we've all owned (sans 1,000+ hp, of course), versus someone like John Force who drives a Funny car that virtually no one else will ever own or drive.

There is so much more to NHRA than Funny Cars/John Force.
Many of the guys on that show have run sportsman classes.
And some of those guys on that show have 150K in those cars so you wouldn't have much in connection with them either. lol

i suggest all of you go to a NHRA Divisional points race.

"NHRA Divisional points race"... who cares? That doesn't interest me (or entertain me) much at all. :p

Whereas, the latest SO-Memphis was absolutely hilarious. :D 'Doughboy' (what a name, LOL) has his first street race. JJ arm wrestles a guy. They have a bunch of street races. I know, I know, it's stupid and all. But it's entertaining. And the SO-Memphis guys are racing full-frame cars that ANY of us here could build and drive, which makes it MUCH easier to relate to.

Anyway, that's JMHO, not trying to bust your chops or anyone else's about what's 'better'. The true beauty of our system is that we are all free to pick and choose.... :) Peace

I have raced NHRA. Granted, I raced on two wheels, and did a bit of bracket racing, but I have been there, done that, and was licensed to play the game.

The real stars of the NHRA are the Top Fuel and ProStock drivers. They are the heavy hitters. Most fans full the stands to see 300+mph cars, not the regular guys used to fill the weekend between Top Fuel races.
