We had a family vacation planned for myrtle beach arriving on thurs this week. Apparently even during a state ordered mandatory evacuation you still can't get your hotel deposit back. I dont see how thats legal but it is.

I would escalate that up the chain, maybe to the corporate level. That's bullshit.

450 miles wide. Where are you even going to go? lol. It's going to effect every area of the East coast. And unless I hit the highway and go 3 states deep, it won't matter.

The reality is, I have to deal with the house one way or the other. Fortunately the eye seems to be headed more north, so we are in the 30-60mph wind zone.

Hard to deal with the house when you're dead.

That’s what I’m seeing when I look at the map and strike zone. Evacuate to OK or what?

And with 1.2 million under evac, I can’t even begin to imagine what that would be like.

Hope they started strategically shipping fuel.

Think the bigger issue with Flo is the amount of rain it can drop. Especially if the high pressure stunts its speed when it gets close to land. Like Harvey, for most the issue wasn't the wind, it was the rain.
Right now, they are expecting up to 30" of rain for parts of the Carolinas. Could be worse if it just sits along the coast.

Does anyone know how evac works? Not everyone who is evacuating has the funds ready to stay at a hotel for a while. There can't be enough evac centers to house ~1M people.

Just curious how the logistics work there.

I’m in Raleigh and the gas stations and grocery stores are picked dry. The coast is already seeing flooding in the outer banks.

I had awesome tickets to the WVU vs NCSU game that looks to be cancelled.

I think I'm roughly 250 miles inland and still worrying over this one a bit. Especially if it strengthens to a category five, like it can according to scientists and meteorologists. My mother, a Myrtle Beach, SC resident, is under mandatory evacuation and is leaving within the next couple of hours.

I guess what worries me the most is not so much the wind, because I don't think we'll see a crazy high wind, but the flooding that is so known to wreck havoc and cause death.

I'm praying that this major hurricane somehow changes course or doesn't stall as predicted on land fall. Up to 3' of rain in some area is no joke. Be safe everyone!!
Prayers indeed sir. I'm praying for all in the path of Florence, and her siblings that appear to be following her.

I'm in Charleston.

We all know our luck with Storms.

Sticking around, battening the hatches. Seeing how we do. Stayed thru Irma. My parents have stayed thru Hugo on up. I'd rather be here if a problem arises with the house to catch it.
Stay safe. I've ridden out a few. I'm inland now, but I remember the storms. The wind and water are no joke.

If you want to keep stuff dry, make sure it's on high ground, especially in Charleston.

Board the windows. Flying debris can do damage never imagined.

Hilton Head will be fine unless the storm drops in the next day.

I grew up on that island. Somehow the big storms miss it. Hilton Head and Savannah are in a hole of sorts.

I worry about the same, ground is already pretty saturated, I don't think it will get real bad here but anything is possible. I have some supplies and this evening I'm rearranging the garage so i can fit the motorcycle and both cars in there to minimize tree/limb damage to the vehicles. If it looks like its going to get really bad I'll pack up the family and heads to my parents, they live on top of a hill and have a generator to power the house so should be good to go there. Don't want to risk anything with my 1 year old.

Do you really think anyone in the government thinks about anything logically? Watch the news for highways full of abandoned cars.

Add in the naivete of people, and now you have an even larger catastrophe.

Fingers crossed. The house is literally 500’ from the beach. It would seriously suck if it gets destroyed.
