Fords flagship should crush a base GT in all performance categories—most important being acceleration.

I’ve personally beat 2 GT350’s in a roll race and half a dozen or more at the drag strip.

Not acceptable IMO.

You may have missed the thread SID posted about the CP crank 5.2 Ford was working on .... that thread alone told me what a waste of time and money the Voodoo really is.

Sigh, anecdotal evidence is of low value. I could respond with "I've beaten..." but then it becomes perspective based. With equal drivers, a base GT (stock) is not beating a stock 350 in ANYTHING. The rare exception being the new 10 speed auto and a full on 1/4 drag race from launch.

But again, you completely miss the point. Your comparison is like the muscle heads that go to the gym and do nothing but bench press. You look at a 195 lb man who's in incredible shape and can bench press 280 and the guy who's 35 lbs overweight, can't run or do anything other than bench press and claim he's in better shape because he can bench 290?

I trust you realize there's MORE to driving performance than just straight line racing right?

Your comparison is akin to saying "A Ford GT should be able to beat that F250 4x4 across a muddy plow field." One vehicle is designed for one purpose, the other something very different.

Ford will most likely blur the lines even further with the new 500, but the 500 has been a muscle car, the 350, was again, not INTENDED to focus on beating shittier cars in a straight line. Had the engineers wanted to do that they would have designed and focused it to do so. They would have benchmarked it against other narrow focused muscle cars.

You're bagging on a car that you don't own, sounds like you don't know how to drive, and your only justification is that it doesn't match your expectations for straight line acceleration?

Some of us want more to our driving experience than a drag chute on the back of the car. Those cars USED to impress me, then I graduated to a more complete driving expectation.

Learn to cliff your responses chief.

GT350 is slower than a shittier base 10 speed GT down the quarter mile. Period. Not anecdotal.

Don't take my word for it. Spend 5 minutes online and have a peak.

Why do the facts bug you so much? The words "President Trump" (facts) must trigger you too, just like the last guy.

Im not bagging on anything by saying its slower down the 1/4, or that it drinks oil like a first year Sailor. These are facts. Sorry you don't like the way in which I deliver them.

That's great that you've "graduated" to a more elite taste in driving experience. LMAO. Do you drive a turbo Porsche Cayenne?

Amazing.

You're completely correct. It is BARELY slower than a stock 10 speed GT. It's also slower than my 1999 GT with a blower. Only a fool would argue my old 99 was a better car. But that's your argument.

I think we're done here. You've demonstrated the veracity of your opinion enough. You don't own the car. Your only value seems to be ETs in a straight line. And you're entitled to your opinion. Just realize that to many other people, there's more to a car than just have fast it goes in a straight line.

I decided to look back through my logs.

In March I ran my 17 Mustang GT that had wheels/tires/suspension, laid down my fastest time ever at my local track.

In late July on like a 90 degree day I ran 2 seconds faster in my GT350 on my first time out, which is completely stock.

If I short shift the GT350 (around 7000-7200), in 40 degree warmer temps, it appears to be on average 4 mph faster than my GT was on the back straight. When I don't short shift and use the extra RPM, it's 7 mph faster.

I haven't owned or driven a new 5.0, but I have been on track with them. As pointlessly anecdotal as the entire argument is, they seem quick but there is still an obvious edge with the 5.2. But it of course wasn't a 10 speed, and definitely wasn't in drag mode, because that would be pointless.

Yeah, the 99 GT is a poor analogy because it shares 0 with the 350 whereas the 18 GT is actually a 350 watered down some. The cars are a lot more similar than not which is why the fan boys (you) seem to always want to justify their ADM purchases to the guys who "cant afford it" (LOL on that--at least in my case) and went the "shitty" GT route.

I think you've finally got it. That's great. Correct, Im a straight-line guy and likely always will be being I haven't "graduated" yet at 40 years old. Maybe some day, but I doubt it. The thrill of acceleration is what does it for me.

People don't buy 350's for 1/4 mile times, if thats what they want a Hellcat or 13/14 gt500 would be a much better choice. I've personally owned 3 modded gt500's, when it came time to replace my 14gt500 I opted for the 350R over the Hellcat or another 13/14 gt500 because although they have gobs of power it's nearly impossible to put it to use on the street where my car spends it's time. Ford has a 1/4 mile monster in the 13/14 gt500 and now they have a road course beast with the gt350 which was the goal of this car. Big surprise the car that wasnt designed for the 1/4 doesnt blow people away with its performance in the 1/4. Square peg round hole

Gimmie, this comment is curious to me. Have you ever driven or attended a High Performance Driving Event on a road course of any type?

I think we've covered that about 100x but yeah... agree.

I sure have. And I know where youre going with your thoughts. Respectfully, spare me the conversation about how "special" the "whole package" of gt350-specific components on the car are because I understand and agree.

However, the fact remains the analogy was poor because the s550 GT is far far far more comparable to the 350, for obvious reasons, than a 99 GT.

No you don't know where I am going with my thoughts and I am surprised you don't want the conversation based on this thread.

OP...the GT350 is not for everyone. Make sure what it is that you want before you buy one.

You do greater damage to your point of view when you use wild and ridiculous exaggerations.

It's curious how these discussions play out based on recent and extended history. The 350 has more torque than the 2003 SVT cobra (and runs faster 0-60 and 1/4 times, even though that's not it's forte). You never heard anyone howling about how small the torque was on termi's.

When compared to the base GT or even the PP GT's, it still A) beats them in roll racing and it's ever so close even against the 10 speed auto (in FULLY stock trim) in the 1/4. Again, these things aren't even what the vehicle's performance development was focused around.

Forget that the 350 out handles, out brakes the GT, it looks better, SOUNDS better and outside the very expensive PP versions, even the seats and interior are better. If you set aside the track stats, the car STILL has value against the regular and PP versions of the GT.

When you compare the torque numbers and engine performance even against the most modern Coyote, the Voodoo still beats it in nearly every aspect, it produces more power, more torque and out revs that motor. THE ONLY aspect is the very early on low rpm torque of the coyote and unless the GT is mated with a 10 speed auto (a pretty unfair- apples/oranges comparison) it doesn't run as fast or hard as a 350.

I don't know what type of test drive comparisons that you're making, but if you're trying to argue that the 350 is doggish compared to anything other than an aftermarket blown car, it's largely a hollow statement.

Now, you COULD make a valid argument that compared to many MODIFIED muscle cars, the 350 seems doggish, but again, that's a pretty apples/oranges comparison.

My 350 will roll the tires over in 1-4 depending on how high you dump the clutch, so the question really becomes how much torque is usable and needed. If you're finding the driving experience doggish, perhaps you should learn how to operate the motor in it's proper performance band. If you think you're going to stomp it from 1500 rpms and have a great experience, that's more your error in how to get the most out of it than the car's fault.

A better way to explain your argument would be "if you want to get something boring and easy to drive and stomp your foot, buy a Tesla, the 350 is too hard to operate with the same results as other typical American muscle platforms."

It's not the car's fault you're not getting the most out of the motor.

Your argument is akin to someone saying "Don't buy an airplane, it's slow as shit when taxiing on the pavement compared to a Greyhound bus."

I would hope so the TERMINATOR is 15 years old, with newer technology if it didn’t what a waste it would be.

And yet many consider it a very special car, much like the 350 there's something special about it.

absolutely, and hear us out - The GT350 is a cool car, we just believe it should have been marketed as the 'boss 302' of this era, with a Tire Shredding high HP version as the 'Shelby'

that way everyone's happy, the corner carving guys, and the highway blast guys. Right?

We could all do without the oil consumption issues, though! :D

Traditionally it is the correct name for the car.

The original GT350 was a road course car as well as the Boss 302. Neither held a candle to the GT500 in a straight line. That's the horse power car, although, based on the interview with one of the Ford directors from the other day, it sounds like they are building the new GT500 to be a cornering car with huge HP. Like a GT350R with near red eye hp.

I do feel bad for the guys who have consumption issues though. It hasn't been confirmed but it sounds like some changes were made (based on what I have read on some other forums) that suggest that Ford has made improvements. My car, at this point, isn't much of an issue. A quart over 3000 miles doesn't worry me when I usually do an oil change every 1500-2000 depending on how many visits the car has to the track.

Good to hear about your car.

What have you read as a far as changes Ford gas made to address the oil consumption?

So, to spice up this thread... I pulled the trigger on Friday and picked up a 17 GT350 with some mods already done including 4.09 gears. This thing is not only gorgeous but pulls great too. Love the way it feels driving it and it's a ton of fun. Literally zero regrets coming from my 756rwhp/682rwtq 03 Cobra.
