I'm tempted

Easter sales are on Beefcake racing has 10% off MGW shifters (surprising Lethal doesn't and they have a ES on also).

So, with everybody saying how it is the bees knees to have this shifter I'm tempted to get it and just get this whole shifting fiasco over and done with. As you know I have recently added the BF shifter bracket and while I have yet to test it by doing a full blown 1-2 shift under WOT having the shifter that everybody says is the end all be all of shifters for a GT500 I figured I might as well test it with the best shifter avail.

My issue(s):

I still read too many people with this shifter still have a grind/lockout under drag racing conditions so getting it doesn't mean I won't still have this problem with my car.

I had a hell of a time pulling my stock shifter a few years ago to do the solid bushings in the forks and putting it back, now having to do it again if I put this shifter in isn't my cup of tea at this moment (having a QJ now (I didn't have before) should make it easier to work under there).

With the 10% off this thing is gonna cost me about CAN$500, the BF bracket cost me CAN$375 so pushing $900 just to hope I have a no grind/lockout 1-2 shift.

I have said that if the bracket didn't sort out this problem I am tttthhhiiissss close "" to !mod my car back to stock and selling it. In fact lately I've been thinking about canning both my cars and go down to 1 nasty ride (C7 ZR1 is on my list and possibly 2nd year model of GT500 (if the car checks out with its stats and performance)) so adding another part seems counterproductive especially one that isn't that easy to remove.

So...……………….what to do what to do...……………….

Um, okay. Lot there to read. Yes to all of it. ZR1 sounds great. I can’t guarantee that the MGW will solve your grind. I bought/installed one and I couldn’t be anymore happier. The thing is awesome.

Good luck to whatever you decide.

Yeah I know about that so if I go ZR1 it would have to be soon or go used. . .. I prefer new.

While I think the BR bracket is a big step in the right direction the factory shifter has SERIOUS shortcomings. When I switched to an MGW shifter it was literally a night and day difference! Know you have the technical ability to do this install yourself, so I would really suggest getting one. You're out roughly $400 but I think this would really help your shifting issue and worst case if you decided to sell the car someone will want this upgrade anyway. Long story short I say go for it, what do you have to lose really.

This. Forget the BF thing and do MGW only.
$500 isn’t anything when discussing $75-100k cars.

^^^^says the guy that has all the cool rides and will be adding a new 500 to the stable, love to be in your shoes. :) I want a ride in that cool new car once you get it when I pay you a visit.

Oh, and based on your analogy I'm still waiting for you to be added to my Kinetik GP list for a 500 and Coyote crank saver kit. $200 + shipping isn't anything when discussing $150K + pair of cars LOL.

TBH, I really am tempted to get one...…………..still have the weekend to think about it if I'm going to pull the trigger. If I get one it's going to be attached to the bracket, that's not coming off my car.

Question: If I go for this thing when you order you can get a standard handle or extended length (1/2") for added leverage, I'm reusing my stock shift ball and I want it to look exactly like OE once it's in so basically which handle do I go with and give me the best chance of not having a 1-2 shift issue?

I would say the extended and if you're up to it a weighted shift knob. The standard handle definitely needs more effort vs. stock. I've recently started to consider getting the extended one.

On the Corvette thing, honestly if you don't think you'll love the Shelby with or without the shifter I say get the corvette. It's only a car, and why not try something new and most importantly you enjoy. You can always get back into another Shelby.

I bought both. Then you figure out which you like better. If I can find it in my stack of parts I will let you know which I used.

Haha, good point buddy. I reread the post and the BF bracket is already installed. Probably rip on it with that new Mod first. I’m not sure if the BF needed with the MGW Gen2 but outside of a trans rebuild with different 1-2 synchros I know the MGW has great reviews.
If you ever make it down here for any events def let me know. I’m off to find the GB for the Coyote crank saver.

Just send me a PM with your info for the Coyote and GT500 kit and I'll get you on the list.

Using the extended. Liked the feel and looks better when using the extended version. I changed my shifter boot when I was in there along with shift ball.

Only $15 to get the extended version. Well worth it to have on hand if you don’t like the standard version that comes with the kit.

Black Cobra 99 said it right. Get what you enjoy. The MGW shifter is awesome but if you want another car it will not make you happy.

Thanks for the pic, the longer handle looks perfect in the car.

edit: You guys broke me and I'm beaten down, late yesterday I caved and did the order for one (with the longer handle but reusing factory shift ball) so while I'm not looking forward to spending a ton of time under my car to again re&re a shifter I am anxious to get this thing and get it in the car to see how it is. Again as mentioned before I will be bolting it to the BF bracket.

Which MGW rear bushing are most of you using the regular or the harder race one??

When I did mine it had the rubber style "regular" bushing and I don't remember there being any other option. Not had any issues with shifting and the feel is night and day different. Just an FYI, when first installed the shifter springs and bushings are a little tight and shifting effort will be slightly elevated. Give it a little time, all the parts will micro wear in and shifting effort will be perfect!

No springs in the shifter. I noticed the shifter was a little stiff before I installed it and decided to lube the output shaft with some synthetic grease. Then I worked the shifter on the bench to distribute the grease. It loosened up pretty good on the bench and got better after installation.

Extended lever and “street” isolator, especially if you are feeling more shifter shake with your BF bracket installed.
