Having owned a M3 and Boxsters, Porsche and BMW program the transmissions differently...
In a Porsche, when you come to a red light and then release the brake pedal, the car will engage the transmission and crawl forward. If on a hill, it will sit with brake on.
In a BMW, when you release the brake the car will sit like in neutral until you touch the accelerator, then it will engage and crawl. If you are on a hill it will roll, unless the hill start is activated, then it will sit with brakes on.
Also, when you down shift the Porsche with the paddle in auto mode, the car will hold that gear for 10s, then resume auto mode.
On BMW, if you downshift manually, it will remember that and not continue to shift up until you return it to auto mode. I think there was a trick to pull both paddles to return to auto mode, but I did not learn this until after I sold the car and I hated it bc if I just wanted to drop a gear or go up a gear it would require additional button pushes to get it back to auto mode.
So I preferred the Porsche DCT programming in all aspects except I did like the BMW staying in neutral until I touched the gas.
What will Ford do and what GM will do... Will they be the same?
