Depends on what you want as far as lifestyle. Are you looking for more urban or outside the metro area?SO .... whats are the "good" "newer" spots in PHX? I spotted a few nice homes in Surprise. I mapped it out I'm only 8 hours away. Really not too bad of a drive, I do that shit all the time down to San Diego. May have to find a different career path but **** it I need out of this Commie Hell Pit. AZ looks really good for lakes/guns/dirt riding. And it's a red state.
I'm thinking some spots near lake Pleasant. I am a lake guy. Also looking for good deals on new housing lol. From what I can tell there are some good dirt riding spots as well. Would be cool to go shooting on some BLM land.Depends on what you want as far as lifestyle. Are you looking for more urban or outside the metro area?
Surprise is nice actually, but the joke around here goes like this: "Surprise! You're an hour from Phoenix" hehehe. Its growing there though, has access to the 17 and the 10 via the 303 loop. There's also Grand Avenue to get to Phoenix. Its a partial highway/street and takes longer but its a direct route to Downtown Phoenix from Surprise.
To the North of the metro area if you're looking for a little more rural there's Cave Creek and Carefree. Anthem is right off the 17 so its more convenient, but I cant say Ive stopped there. Deer Valley from what I can tell is nice, close to Lake Pleasant. DV is still metro Phoenix but right at the edge. Desert View village, Norterra etc all along the Metro edge, but not in the boonies.
If you and the Mrs. want to be in the metro area, there's always Scottsdale and Paradise Valley. Central Phoenix up by the 101 is nice too.
In the East valley, theres Chandler and Gilbert. Gilbert is really coming on as a nice city. Southern end of the east valley. Close to the 10 via the 202. North East Mesa is actually pretty nice but DO NOT MOVE TO APACHE JUNCTION.
ADOT is soon to open the South Mountain section of the 202 loop connecting Chandler/Gilbert to the West valley. It will be a VERY nice bypass of Phoenix if youre trying to get around.
If you spot an area you're interested in shoot me a PM.
I did not like 2 things in Zona. I did not like the scorpions. I did not like valley fever, I developed pneumonia out there. Extremely hard to breath. Other than that it’s awesome.I'm thinking some spots near lake Pleasant. I am a lake guy. Also looking for good deals on new housing lol. scorps and snakes....yeah, not cool lol. Good thing I have a shotgun, blow those ****ers away. Hard to breathe? I'm not sure about that. I live "in the valley" of CA. Literally the worst air pollution in the nation. I know AZ is hot AF but I'm real used to 100+ I just need cold beer and a lake lol. I leaning towards this because I can drive home in 8 hours.I did not like 2 things in Zona. I did not like the scorpions. I did not like valley fever, I developed pneumonia out there. I just get the small skinny tan ones. And a lot of black widows but they always remain outside.Saw this guy on a hike recently in the foothills near my house.View attachment 1602115

Out on the metro edge or the out in the sticks is when you might see some rattlers, but they arent too keen on human interaction or loud noises that you have in civilization.scorps and snakes....yeah, not cool lol. its all good ...I love the desert. Been riding in it for years. Im also used to the hot ass weather, 100 plus is the norm. What I'm not used to is the snow. I have been accustomed to snakes, deer, mountain lion, bob cats, all sorts of bull shit. I think AZ would be a good fit for me. Cheaper housing than CA. And as of now, cheaper cost of living.I’m assuming you have family still in the Central Valley. Yes Valley Fever is very prevalent in the Fresno area. Any fungus on the lungs sucks.
Snakes are easy as they are big easy to see or shoot. Scorpions are another matter. Easy to step on hard to see. Need to look in shoes before you put them on.
AZ has many good lakes that feel great on 100+ days.
yea, im checking out that area. I think surprise would be good. Little over 30 minutes to the lake. im not too worried about scorpions, I eat those bitches in my pop sickles LOL. I do have house cats.Out on the metro edge or the out in the sticks is when you might see some rattlers, but they arent too keen on human interaction or loud noises that you have in civilization.
Technically still illegal to shoot within city limits (thanks Tucson). Buuut you can buy a suppressor for your shot gun. Tax stamp might take some time but its legal in AZ to own.

Id say start your search in this area. Include anthem, Carefree and Cave Creek. Due north of this map is Lake Pleasant. Closer to the 101 or the 17 you are, the faster it is to get the the rest of the Valley and the East Valley.
Also, get housecats for Scorpions.
I get the little tiny skinny scorpions. Maybe an inch or so long. The black widows remain outside. They find a place to nest and never roam. How big would you say that one is?
I have seen 2 tiny ones (an inch or smaller) crawling about, but never anything as big as the one I saw on my hike (hike was around Black Mountain btw).
Speaking of black widows, had one living in my trunk for a while. Killed it!
we get widows too. mostly in the garage. I hate those little sluts ! I love the desert though. I spent many seasons desert riding.I get the little tiny skinny scorpions. Maybe an inch or so long. The black widows remain outside. They find a place to nest and never roam.
Not trying to be intentionally controversial here but I don't like the desert. I miss the green and water and snow of the Northeast. Those widows aren't roamers, doe. They hunker down and just wait.we get widows too. mostly in the garage. I hate those little sluts ! I love the desert though. I spent many seasons desert riding.
rain is just depressing lol. And snow .....**** that. I'm not about to wake up, and shovel 4 ft of snow off my driveway. Depends where you live. I lived in Philly for years and I remember a few years where we got nothing but some flurries. No accumulation.rain is just depressing lol. And snow .....**** that. I'm not about to wake up, and shovel 4 ft of snow off my driveway. NNOOPPPEEEEEE
