You don't have to drop anything. But be prepared for a lot of cussing. Especially if it's the original. It might be worth spraying the fittings with WD40 or penetrating lube to get things moving.

This.
Just get the rear up in the air and you will have access to it. Also get your self a fuel line quick disconnect. I have done a few on new edges and SN95's, its not all that hard.
Side Note, I would put some goggles on if you are lying directly under it. Gas will leak out and it sucks getting it in your eye(s). Ask me how I know.
Do your self a favor and grab these:

the harbor freight fuel line tools are LEGIT. I battled my filter for 2 days, no joke. Several different tools and methods. Then I bought the HF tool set. That fuel line popped off in 15 seconds LOL. Make sure you use the arrow pointing towards the engine when you install the new one.
I bit the bullet and dropped the rear of the IRS after effing with the filter clips for more than a day. Raise the rear, disconnect the exhaust tips and remove the cat back from the last hanger. Remove the long bolt from the frame and IRS on each side of the IRS and gently drop the rear with a jack under the pumpkin. You might need to unclip the ABS line to the brake calipers. It's basically the same process if you are replacing the rear springs. It was a little more involved but made getting to the filter much easier. ~180K, so I thought it was about time to replace.Any tips to swap this out, it appears mines original. Shouldn’t have to drop fuel tank or differential right ?

He tilted it. If you have the stock bushings you'll need to loosen the front cradle bolts so it'll move.wow so you dropped the whole IRS ? I may need to do the same thing anyway. A lot of my bushings are shot and I want to replace them . Maybe I’ll do this.
Was it hard to do it? Time consuming?

I just dropped the rear of the IRS. Not really bad at all and mucho easier than trying to contort your arm and fingers to disconnect the filter.wow so you dropped the whole IRS ? I may need to do the same thing anyway. A lot of my bushings are shot and I want to replace them . Maybe I’ll do this.
