Here are two methods of doing the Fog Light Rewire Mod.

Method 1. Fog Lights can be turned-on with the parking lights or the headlights turned-on. No wire cutting is necessary ... you merely reverse the position of two wires in a harness located in the center console.

Method 2. Fog Lights can be turned-on independently of all other lights. All that's required, is that the ignition switch has to be in the "ON" position. A simple cutting of one or two wires, and the use of "butt" connectors is required.

Quick question.
Can you push the switch assembly up from underneath, or pop it out from above to make this mod ?
Or do you have to pull the whole console out to get to the thing?

I tried pushing from below & no luck...

Thanks

You can push it up from the bottom - just pull the glove box shell out, like said on the Web Page.

2. Remove the console glovebox lid and the box insert, as told in items 2, 3, and 4, of Method 1.

3. ADDED: Push (carefully) up on fog light switch harness connector, to dislodge the switch from the console, and then disconnect the harness from the switch and pull the harness back into the console.

You can see the metal clips on the sides of the switch, that hold the switch in place, by friction.

Dano, quick question about one of the disadvantages to Method 1. It says when you get to your destination and start to get out, the vehicle will start chimming to remind you that you left the parking lights on. Does that simply mean that the foglight switch must be turned off everytime you get out of the car, along with shutting the headlights off like you would normally do?

No, it was just my way of saying that the chime would remind you that the parking lights were on. When the parking lights are turned OFF, the fog lights are going to go OFF too.

I said that because I always forget to turn the parking lights off. Even in my Hemi Quad-Cab, the parking lights have to be on in order for the fogs to work, and I always forget to turn them off when I stop, and the chime reminds me that I forgot something.

Really, that whole thing is kind of a "plug" for doing Method 2, and then you don't have to worry about anything ... when you turn the key OFF, the fog lights will go OFF.

Moe, I created the Web Pages for you to get info from. Go to this web address:

http://www.walters-online.com/foglight.htm

There are references, and photos. If what you need isn't there, I 'll research it and get you the information.

EDIT Didn't want to come off as a smart ass, but I don't recall the colors of all the wires in the connector. I identified the two wires in the connector (Method 1) that are affected. You merely reverse the position of the two in the connector.

Good luck ... it's very easy to do Method 1.

Awesome how-to, Dano. I did method 2 in about an hour (not counting vacuuming the dog hair off the carpet and trying to find my lost screw...). Is there any way to make the little light on the foglight button come on once you've done method 2? Maybe by splicing the old wire back in? It's no big deal, but I always liked that little light.

Thanks!
Tom

I'm sure there is, but I don't have a clue about how to do it ...:-D:??: :-D

Wait one I don't understand ... my fog light switch light worked okay. All you did was splice in one additional wire - I wonder if you dislodged something in the switch when you had it out, or maybe the light just quit working.
