So all you guys who think this thread is gay know what all these "words" mean???

I would just like to know what someone is trying to relay when they type something incorrectly. Apparently it's the trend on the internet.

it's not gay, it's just been covered a million times.

i'm not sure about you. but whenever I text, it's usually a complete thought or several thouhts.. one, long message beats thousands of fragments of words designated as acronyms. When you talk, do you say "elle Oh elle? no. so why prepetuate a society where telle-communication is reduced to acronyms?

if you need to type out thousands of messages, you'd be money ahead sending a email or having a phone conversation.

How about "lulz" and "ZOMG"?????

lulz = lol, as in something that's funny.

zomg = omg, as in 'holy crap,' 'wow,' and other words/phrases to that effect.

Sometimes I'll use acronyms in text becaue I can only send 160 characters to non-verizon people, and I don't know what providers my friends use so I just abbreviate to be safe. As far as just making phone calls, sometimes you can't talk but texting is acceptable, texting @ work when you have a spare minute, @ the movies if you keep the light from showing up, out with friends at a club because it's too loud, etc.

Also, if you want to really get to learn the internet lingo, also take a look at 'leet speak.' It was a lot more popular a few year ago, but it is still used to some extent these days.

Internet lingo is comparative to military lingo, so if you think of it that way it may help you as you try to understand it. gl, hf =)

finally, if you want to really get into the whole internet culture and learn where a lot of this stuff originates, go take a look at 4chan. Before you do, make sure there are no kids around, you're not at work, and you can take more than a few shocks. It's a place where anything goes, from gore to hentai to the quickly banned child porn posters, and more often than not it's just a bunch of useless crap, but every now and then some gem will surface(such as the lolcat/caturday pictures of a cat and some funny saying). I highly suggest you read a few things about 4chan before visiting, because it's not for everyone, or anyone really. Before any of you /b/tards goes off spouting 'rules 1 & 2 ******', stfu no one cares about your stupid rules.

I just do not get the text craze.
How can you tell the emotion of the conversation?
Guess 40 somethings just are not "hip".

it's not a matter of what's cool or not, it's more about efficiency(or laziness, they are interchangable in this instance). Compare to why most 60+ don't use computers or the internet, it's too new for their time. The world keeps getting smaller and smaller, and older generations either have to adapt or be shut out. Who knows what my generation(I'm 23) will have to adapt to or whatever in 20-30 years.
