Some years back I was attending some sort of exposition and a represenative of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was there with a brand new Trooper car on display. The speedometer in the car read up past 170. I asked the trooper is the car actually was able to reach those speeds. He replied that it will go even faster than that. I find it hard to believe though he said it with a straight face.

During the late 80s the Miami Police Dept. had a 911 turbo painted police colors with lights and sirens.

Damn, my '94 Crown Vic topped out at about 105mph before the governor cut fuel and spark. It felt like it was pretty much out of steam at 100mph anyway. I guess the PI cars are faster.

Alot of departments have specialized cars, that are usually seized.

There are ALOT of "undercover" cars out there that would surpise the hell out of you when the cherries and berries light up.

That is why it is not wise to race or speed on the street. Around here in southern WV they have the Magnums, Chargers, Caprice's, LTDs/Marquis, Durangos, pickups, Jeep Cherokees and I can't think of what else. You have to be so careful anymore its not fun. Around here I know they have a few that do 125+ because my service tech friend works on them and test drives them at times.

The worst part about driving a squad car over 100MPh is you can be gaurenteed that somewhere between 95 and 105 the damn spot light is going to catch the wind and slam back, sucessfully scaring the be-jesus out of you!

Stock P71's are limited around 135mph, i know that much...

Part of it is drive line vibrations... My cars driveshaft turns to a banana around 115mph, so i haven't dared to go any higher than that

The crown vics have the 4.6L 2v motor. Same as whats in the mustangs from 96-04... Theyre not the fastest things around... They may be able to hit 130 if theyre lucky, but its sure gonna take em a while to get there.

In Oklahoma, the highway patrol has Hayabusa bikes.

yup, siezed from a drug sting. We also have a new SS camaro. not saying its fast, just saying we have it. I have talked to the guy in charge of washing it. He said they dont do any patroling with it. Its mainly a tool to mingle with the public. Ill post sosme pics of it later. im at work right now.

I will tell you this much they are 10x better/quicker then the crappy Chevy v6 impalas we had at one point. At least now allot of them are retired and then majority now are vics.

Hate to break it to you guys but it might be possible. I'm an instructor at a technical college. We are frequently visited by a technical rep from the maintenance division from the CA Highway Patrol. Well, I was invited to their fascility the other day for a field trip and we started talking. These guys take a standard issue Hemi equipped Charger or Magnum (I don't remember which) put a tune in it, aftermarket exhaust, some sort of ram air from the grill and some other mods. He showed me a dyno sheet from one they just got back from a local dyno which read 578 HP. He also said there are a dozen or so on the highways and two available for training purposes. All vehicles there had Goodyear Z rated tires.

Without a governor, slick top and the right gearing it might get close. More kindling on the fire.

I just called the tech to get the specs on what they do exactly. They install a custom ground cams from Comp Cams, Long tube headers, magnaflow exhaust minus cats, Custom cold air intake and a tune from a high end programmer (He asked I don't give specifics) that is government spec only. Not available to public. Then typical ignition and engine bolt on's.

Many people would be very surprised if they actually knew of the equipment/cars that their local police departments have hiding away. Trust me i know i was.

That is all.

who cares how fast they go, any cop chasing someone at over 100mph is looking for trouble, unless of course someone he is chasing pulled a piece on them....that I could
understand...

To the OP from Athens- I sure hope you're not a UGA student!

Our GSP cars are, and have been since at least 1978, bone stock. There are serious liabiliity issues to consider when a govt. unit strays from stock. Furthermore, local and state govt. cannot violate the federal emissions anymore than private citizens.

If you want to know what govt. testers say of police cars, I believe Michigan State Patrol does yearly testing.
