Hi guys I just bought a new gt500 in June, I found one that had 90 miles on it and was never titled. I have the vmp stage 4 kit on it and a set of 305 Mickey Thompson drag radial tires on it.

I just installed a mgw shifter to try to get rid of the 1 to 2 shift grind at high speed and it did not work, it still grinds .

The good news is that it is still under warranty but the car now has 1900 miles on it and I don't want it to go under the knife.

What do you guys think

Do you have pictures of the rear support bushing installed on the vehicle?

Grind issue could be mitigated through any combo of bushings, SS clutch line, and/or shifter.

Note that many of us found the problem has a lot to do with the angle at which the shifter is pulled from 1st into 2nd - straight back = no grind, while pulling on angle toward driver (which is somewhat natural) = grind.

You going to want to try Redline D4 ATF for your trans fluid. 11-12 are much more sensitive to grind and it virtually eliminated it and gave much crisper and smoother gear engagement. If youre trying to flat shift it (drag racing) A WOT Box for the No Lift shift feature is, literally, the best thing ever in the world.

Stainless Steel braided line is another good mod to put in.

Everything said here but I used Amsoil synthetic ATF.
I've never had 1-2 shifting issues just the rare lock out.
These trans and the car doesn't need a floored 1-2 power shift as it doesn't respond well and also upsets the chassis, especially on drag radials or street tires.
First just swap fluid and practice technique, good luck.

This would be my next task. Inexpensive and in most cases solves the issue you're having. Assuming you're going to try it, let us know how it works for you.

Changing trans fluid was a night and day difference in shifting. I used to sometimes get lock out of 2nd when shifting 1-2 on easy normal driving, that's how bad my syncos where. Changed to Amsoil and never had this issue again.

I changed fluid from Royal Purple, Amsoil, and finally Mobil 1

The Mobil 1 is by far (in my experience) a better fluid.

The RP and Amsoil would get crunchy when the car was cold and smooth out when it warmed up.

The Mobil 1 is perfect at all temps.

Amazing how different people state different findings with different transmission fluids. No clear cut best of the bunch. A poll would likely reveal the same findings.

I think the gist of it is that Dexron III is serviceable as a street fluid. Once you start driving the car in race events or hard acceleration powershifing, the synchros NEED a better fluid to assist lubricating. More importantly a fluid with modifiers in it to handle engaement under high stress, and fast movement needed when evert hundredth of a second counts.

In this regard, standard Dexron III is not capable in my experience. Amsoil, Redline, Mobil 1 etc are but some of the best options out there. Honestly some transmissions love Amsoil. Mine tried it and it was good but not great. Redline gave my car the most consistent trans operation so far. Other transmissions swear by Mobil 1.

Its amazing how it works, but each if our cars are unique

bought for my 13' blowfish racing trans mount/shifter mount/driveshaft loop and haven't had an issue yet tearing through 1st and 2nd burnouts. my 10 had an issue with mgw shifter but that was the 1st gen last release one. all im saying is the blowfish racing ties all together with the benefit of having a driveshaft loop built it.

Agreed here, but when I swapped it doing the motor and diff conversions to Amsoil, the slight notchiness on the 1-2 leaving the house I was used to was magically gone with the synthetic fluid change, nothing more.
Honestly the '13-14 stock shifter, trans, clutch setup was by far the best stock setup I've ever had. I will say now that I removed the assist spring, it's even better. I never thought I needed to remove it until I installed the Spec clutch, but after removing it I realize how much more natural and linear it is without the spring.
Even if you're happy, synthetic fluid and removing spring will make a big impact.

Use whatever synthetic fluid you want, as above guys have had success with Amsoil, redline, Mobil 1, etc

Funny that you mention the assist spring, I was just thinking about that yesterday!

I have read about the improved feel with the spring removed, but since I have no issues with my clutch, I have been hesitant to do it (if it aint broke, dont fix it, kinda thing).

What made you take the "leap"?
