Hey guys I got an 03 Cobra and it has the stock Eaton on it. I got a smaller pulley and a cai... I want to swap blowers but am stuck at which brand and level to choose... VMP, Whipple, KB, or just port the Eaton... also this is my first boosted car so whatever parts that need to go with a big blower/ported Eaton let me know thanks in advance... (sorry if this is a rethread, couldn't find one that answered all my questions)

Guess it depends on your goals. IMO can’t go wrong with the vmp tvs on a street car. Maybe hold out for the new 2.6 tvs coming out later this year. As far as parts to go with your looking at bigger injectors, fuel pump booster “if you stay stock fuel system”, a good tune. It all depends how big you want to go.

Don’t waste your time on porting the blower. 2.3 VMP, supporting mods and supporting fuel system will net you over 600 on pump gas. Switch to e85 and you’ll be at 700+ rwhp. A 2.65 VMP is soon to be released and I’m sure good deals on used 2.3’s are around the corner.

I agree with Roy. I just finished a ported blower setup with ported Dragon throttle body and plenum, and I find myself looking at VMPs. If it wasn't for the killer deal I got on my setup I would have a massive case of buyer's remorse. If I did it all over again I would save a huge chunk and do a VMP 2.3 with a solid fuel system.

for your power goals a 2.3 is what you want, either whipple or vmp. i personally have run both and i like my vmp better. a bigger blower isnt necessarily going to be better especially if this a primarily street car.
for supporting mods you can go about a couple of ways for your fuel needs:
to get by on pump fuel- 60lb injectors, boost a pump
do it once and be done- id 1000 or 1050x injectors, return style fuel system with e85 compatible pumps

you will start to realize the weak links and needs of everything else, frame support, irs bushings, clutch, ect... once you start pushing 600. cross the 700hp threshold and things start to get real expensive

VMP.

Also, maybe do your horsepower and mods in increments. A lot of people are not accustomed to jumping right behind the wheel of a 700hp car. I have no idea what your driving habits or history are. But many people will read this post.

As you do incremental increases, you will also find the weak links. Usually for every 100hp figure about $4,000

Curious at to why you think a BAP is a waste?

Probably because they eventually take out the pumps. A BAP over drives the pumps to try and get the volume you want. I can't tell you how many cars I've pulled BAPs out of to replace the failed pumps they killed. IMO a BAP is a bandaid. Even the newer Coyote cars I've been dealing with the same thing. Customer wants BAP, at some point they need pumps because theirs burned up.

Look at this way. A pump is a 12 volt motor. You give it 18 volts to spin the hell out of it. What do you think is eventually going to happen?

As for blower OP, VMP will do what you want for your HP goals and do it well. Great blowers for that 500 - 700 whp range.

Nice car. It seems like the bill adds up pretty quick when you consider upgrading the blower. Lots of people do it on a budget and that is fine... I cant say it will fail because I have no experience with that. Obviously even doing it on a budget isnt cheap. Either way you look at it, even shopping deals you are going to be in for 5k after the blower, MAF, injectors, BAP (if you choose that route), and clutch, tune, ect

I can say that a lot of people around here will recommend that you upgrade to a quality fuel system, input shaft on the trans, better injectors. It adds up quick. I have a collection going now that probably adds up to around 8k and I think I am pretty close to done collecting parts for a build. Just know before you jump in that the realistic costs are higher than most anticipate.
