What’s going on guys.

Just wanted to rant a little bit because I just got another cobra in April after waiting 6 years. Clean too. One owner, 60k miles, all stock. Like, EVERYTHING. The community I live in has an HOA so things are a little on the strict side but the other day I parked on the street and the president went to my car and tagged it saying that I was in a spot that was restricted. It doesn’t make sense because it was right in front of the house on the street. It almost makes me not want to have the cobra because I don’t want to have to deal with the stupid HOA shit. I know the HOA is supposed to make or keep Home values up but they don’t make sense to me. We’re only supposed to have one car parked on the street in front of our house and it has to have a sticker and it has to be between a certain time. I get off late and get home around 3 am. Before I went to sleep I looked at the car because I parked it outside, that was around 5:30 am. But when I woke up around 10, I looked at my car and it was tagged with the restricted parking thing. Idk, HOAs are stupid if you ask me, we don’t even have a community pool to take care of or anything like that. All we have is a grass section to sit or walk on.

Now I’m debating if I even want to deal with a new car because there will be some days I have to park it on the street. I’m leaning towards selling now it because of that.. ugh.
Do you have a shelf full of participation trophies?

I would NEVER buy a home that has a HOA! It's my house and my money. Who are they to tell me how tall my grass can be, what color I can paint my house, where I can plant a tree or where the hell I can park.

Last time I checked I still live in America.

At the same time people who "choose" to purchase a home that has a HOA agrees to abide by the rules.

They made the choice to live there. So, they agreed to the rules. Don't like it you're free to choose to move or sell the car.

Never understood why people move into said developments; knowing the rules, signing their name to it, then disagreeing with said rules.
I could never live in one of the places.

So you say you have a garage you keep the cobra in. Why not keep the cobra and make it your daily. You have 60k on it at this point use it and enjoy it. That's what I would do before selling it. HOA fees can be a hassle but I'm sure the community you live in is very nice because of the fees. You could alway's move to a less desirable neighborhood park your car outside wake up the next morning and your car not be there. Me personally I would much rather get a sticker but with the garage and getting rid of your daily you wouldn't have to worry about either. It's a give and take

That was kind of my initial idea. But I drove it to work one day and it was traffic. Omg. I think I started walking to the right after I got out the car, my left leg was feeling like I did a workout. I live is SF and I drove deep into downtown to work. So idk if the cobra as a daily would be a good idea. I started a new job and that’s where I was stationed, I didn’t know that until after I got the cobra.

Your neighborhood is better because of the HOA and because people who are looking for a better neighborhood tend to be attracted to ones that have some sort of enforcement to keep it better, which means a HOA.

Parking cars on the streets makes the neighborhood look low rent. You're lucky because my old neighborhood didn't allow parking on the street, but everyone did because there was no way to enforce the rule (we couldn't tow away offenders). It made the neighborhood look trashy.

They targeting you because if they let you get away with it, everyone else will do it, then they'll whine to the board about how other people are doing it. I was on my HOA board and you wouldn't believe how childish 'homeowners' are. 'He does it why can't I?', constantly telling them to cut their yards, put trash cans away. It's like dealing with children.

You can join the HOA board and get them changed. It isn't hard to join the board - most residents aren't interested in being on it because it takes away a couple of hours a month from their TV watching and phone/table usage. Getting the rules changed can be hard because it is often written in and requires a vote. You think enforcement of the rules is a pain, try getting anyone to vote on anything.

I'd recommend moving to a place without a HOA. You're going to find it to restrictive I think (car guys have that kind of attitude :) ).

Good luck

Maybe I should consider talking to the board members about being part of it. I never thought of that. Thanks for the input.

Not trying to be rude, but always read the fine print, and ask questions when buying any home.

I enjoy tropical plants and Live Oaks. I don't plan on anyone telling me I cannot plant palm trees, etc. If I want to have a party with 50 people, I want them to have the ability to park where they wish (gatherings at my place are a normal occurrence). This means I want to bring out lighting, a club sized PA with multiple subs, and a projector or large TV if a good game is on.

Being that I am currently in the music industry, musicians enjoy sitting around the fire pit, lighting the grill, and writing and singing.

I would be an HOA nightmare.

Sounds like you know how to have one hell of a time!! That’s true though, but if you were my neighbor I wouldn’t mind it at all.

I'm about to move, specifically because of HOA. These idiots allow tow trucks through our gated community at 4am, and they tow people for questionable infractions. Petty sure there's a nice handshake deal on the side between them..

Damn that’s crazy. That’s what I’m afraid of. I don’t want to wake up and see that my car is gone. I’d probably bang on the presidents house so early in the morning he’d think it’s a break in

And while everyone bashes the HOA it really does protect property value. There have been a lot of issues down here with people letting their house go to shit (but nothing violates code or ordinances) and the houses near it see a big drop in value. There’s been a few that can’t even sell becuase of their Neighbor’s house.

Keep in mind this in a market where houses or selling within hours, over asking price and cash offers

I use to sit on an HOA board. You should have a copy of the HOA Covenants. Newer communities usually have covenants developed by the community builder/s. The HOA by design is to promote a safe neighborhood, protect home values, care for the neighborhood non residential land and keep consistency in home design.

The covenants should point out parking. Typically, you will see autos must be properly licensed, no back yard mechanic or auto service (your car in your garage to fix or service is ok), street parking limited to no more than 48 hours in a 1 week period, RV/ boat parking no more than 48 hours on your driveway ( considered as an eyesore) as an example. The community HOA typically is more strict based on established home standards and construction.

If the covenants don’t address a specific situation, it is not enforceable. The covenants should also point out the procedure to amend the covenants as well.

In your case, there must be something in the covenants that you violated. The tag should specifically point that out......may be a fire hydrant as the restricted area?..

I never bashed the HOA (and I know you didn't single anyone out). I just said I would never live in an area that has a HOA. And if you know there's a HOA and you choose to live there then it's on you to deal with the rules.

I don't think the property value is diminished that much in areas that don't have a HOA.

I think if you live in an area that requires a certain income level to live there most who can afford to live there will take care of their property and not need a board to tell them how to maintain their property.

To me needing a HOA is sad anyway. It's like me reminding my kids how to be responsible every 5 seconds. Pathetic.

Yeah they towed my other vehicle one time in a way that was totally against their own policy. I was so pissed. I'm actually no longer allowed in their office after I confronted the property manager. Got pretty ugly...lol

last October 2017, we were on vacation from the UK in Davenport in FL, on the final evening in Davenport our flight back to UK for 3 of us was at 08.00am Local the following day, I parked the car exactly outside our vacation home on the street for the night & knowing we were leaving for the Airport at 04.30am, I even put our cases in the car at 23.30pm local time ready to go, we all got up 03.30 am & went out to our car at 04.10am to find the car gone, I thought it been stolen, I called 911 police arrived 15 min later, The Police Officer I'm so sorry the HOA decided to call a tow truck at 02.00am to have our car towed away due to it was parked 12 inches over a grass verge, firstly I didn't know who was the HOA but I quickly learned, the officer said they are Leathal and do what ever they want and the police have difficulty in undoing what they do due to them being on a private housing estate. Officer gave me the details where the car was towed to but being a sunday Morning I had to wait until 09.00 Monday morning to retrieve my car from the compound costing me $400 and $1800 for 3 flights back to the UK, One thing for sure I will never hire a house for a vacation again in the USA, Hotels only for me. My advise for you would be to move. in the UK there is no such thing as HOA I'm glad to say & with our laws there never will be.
