Hello all,

My name is Chad and i am in the Seattle Area, I own a 04 Torch Red Cobra that I am the original owner of, and purchased it back in Oct of 2004. Today the car has 112k miles.

I have always looked in over the years for advice here, but had never made an account. When I bought the car it was my daily driver for about 5 years until I bought a 2nd vehicle . At which about that time the recession came and I didn't have disposable income to do anything on the Cobra. Well now I have the time and the money and other cars to drive (as well as have the cobra on blocks in my garage) and am ready to finally get things going.

Issues I have had are similar to what you guys frequently post of.....
-On my 4th Alternator. Now I use the 130 amp PA from american muscle and have put in bigger wires in from the alternator to the battery (2/0 welder cable). The PA Alternator has made it about 4 years now with no issues but i can hear some engine whine in the radio since the day I installed it.

-About to put in my 3rd intercooler pump as I have just done a coolant flush (Motorcraft gold) and noticed its not pumping again. I have had issues with air bubbles over the years as you guys do also with the crossover tube. You can see in the photo I have welded a nut the top of my burp plug so I could get it on and off easier. (i just ordered a new plug)

-Had about 5 different sets of tires

-Engine Tick..... I hear it a little on the driver side. I have seen you tube videos of people who have it worse. (I have always Ran Mobil 1 but now may try the 5w30 instead of the 5-20) I just live with it and drive in pride as it is a cobra noise :)

-Had the Stealership put in a new clutch at about 85K as the throw-out bearing became noisy (they got me for about $2400 for this)

-Rear end leaks (and on the exhaust too) and needs to be toped off about every 6 months

-Front Wheel bearings hubs I am n my 3rd set. i am about to do the rears.

-I also seem to be getting some small heat cracks in the rear 3rd brake light (How can a new one of these really cost 280 bucks???)

-I need a new drivers seat as mine is showing its wear

I want thank you guys for all the posts I have read over the years. They have helped me greatly. Especially the burp procedure and also the guy who made the posts about the hood latch washer for a spacer so it closes better. Props to that guy for sure!

Hey thanks for the warm welcome! Yeah she is my baby. I try to only drive her in good weather and keep her in the garage, but hey it's Seattle so..... yeah you know.

Growing up my dad had non main stream cars and I always would ask him "Dad don't you worry your cars go down in value if you drive it?" Well he used to answer to that "Son i didn't buy it to look at it" "I own it for the purpose it was made. To drive it" So i sort of picked that up from him. I however wish I could find an insurance company that was simpler to only insure it when I want to drive it..... If anyone has any tips for who gives the best rates for cobras please let me know!

Thanks again for welcoming me in.

Look into collector car insurance. They vary on some things, but that may be the best way to go for you. I use Grundy personally. I'm sure others will have suggestions as well.

If you drive the cobra often, i would recommend American Collectors Insurance. They are a little more laxed on the amount of miles per year you can put on the car, and the type of drives you'd potentially do. My coverage allows for 7500mi/yr, with no real restrictions on the kind of drives I do.

Costs about $700/yr, and is full coverage up to the agreed value of the vehicle

I have my Cobra insured through the National Corvette Museum. I learned about them back when I had my vette. Costs about $450/yr and I can put 6k miles a year on it. It's also insured with full coverage for the agreed upon value.

Thanks for the insurance recommendations. I will definitely check into them.

Do you guys just cover your cobras with the collector/Vette type insurance, and than homes+other cars with another company? I am with progressive now and a clean record and they get me for 1200ish yearly just on the cobra w/1000 deductible (I usually take it off in the winter months and just do the storage insurance)

I Really appreciate the info and will be seeking to contact these places.

You guys are awesome.

Welcome, finally. Your post was a great and refreshing read, breath of fresh posting. Wish others would follow suit. You should fit in just fine. My wife is from outside of Seattle, to much rain for me. Your car looks really good.
Now, back to checking on JJ Garvey
