Sorry but the 2018+ Ford's design is killer compared to that

GM is on a downhill spiral. First they destroy the Camaro now the the Silverado HD. On the plus side though there is a rumored 6.7 DI V8 coming out.

Big gas motors are on the way from all manufacturers. With the way diesel emissions systems are they are going to be a popular option.

10 speed Allison

Under the 2020 Silverado HD’s hood is a choice of two new powertrains: an all-new gasoline engine with direct injection mated to a six-speed transmission, or the Duramax Turbo-Diesel V-8, which delivers 910 lb-ft of torque through an all-new, Allison 10-speed transmission.

I wonder if it is a joint venture transmission with the Ford 10R140?

Where Im currently at I see more 6.4 Rams than Cummins powered one and they are all pulling Goosenecks. Lately I have seen more gassers doing work than diesels. Usually its just bros and soccer moms cruising the PowerStroke powered trucks.

The new Godzilla engine is gonna be a success I bet

Definitely seeing a lot more gas engines now, at least on Ram trucks. I still see a lot of the HD Ford trucks running Powerstroke motors. Most I've towed was around 12.5k with a skid steer and the truck did fine, even over a mountain pass. Biggest issue vs the diesel motors is the narrow power band. Really need more gears (vs the diesel) to keep it near peak torque.

Today I saw someone post this on a Ram forum. Said it was around 15k (possibly more) and he ran the cruise control at 65 without issue. Impressive for a gas motor.

These newer (and the new ones form Ford and GM) big c.i. gasers are darn near as potent as diesels from not all that long ago. Especially when you figure in the advancements of the AT, that can keep them in their power bands.

For 90% of us, a properly equipped gas HD truck is all we'd ever need.

On the ford truck forum the RV guys swear by the 6.2. The 6.0 GM is long in the tooth, but reliable and easily fixed.

@TheVikingRL those guys on the Ram forum best the 6.4 trucks mercilessly and they keep rolling. Im tempted myself to buy a 3/4 ton tradesman and put a thuren kit on it.

The 6.4 BGE (big gas engine) as they call it uses the Hellcat block and 356 aluminum heads which are revised over the standard SRT 6.4 motor. Plus a forged crank & pistons, full floating pins, oil squirters, nitride coated & sodium filled exhaust valves, etc. So definitely well overbuilt for a 410hp motor. Achilles heal on the current Ram is its 6 speed trans. Gearing is horrible for heavy pulling even with the optional 4.10's. Rumor is they will run an 8 speed next year which would be a huge help.

I have a Thuren's track bar on my truck now, really nice stuff.

I read over there that 4.56 gears were doing great for them.

GM dropped the ball again. EPA listed MPG is lower than outgoing models. The trucks lost weight maintained the same power and added some funky cyclinder deactivating system and is still bad in gas

This is why I bought a 6.2 F250.

It's over $10k more for a similarly equipped diesel (if such a thing did exist) and I have to worry about the emissions BS.

So far the most I've towed with it is probably 5500 lbs and the truck drives a lot better with the weight than without it. The most it will probably ever see is 10k but I wanted a little extra truck over a half ton in the event I need it.
