I am by no means an Apple person.

Owned a couple of iPods in the early 2000s, but that's it.

What do I need to be able to run HDMI in to an iPad and use it as a monitor?

Thanks.

Are you trying to use the ipad as a monitor from the computer? It should just be plugging the charge cord into the USB on the computer and it should start working.

Unless I'm not reading this right.

From a camera. Camera has a micro HDMI output, needing that to get to the iPad somehow to display realtime video feed.

Oh shit.

Well I don't know about that. Probably some sort of adapter, I'm sure someone knows.

Link?

I need to be able to run video (HDMI) and power to the iPad.

quick search on my phone:

1) there are a bunch hdmi to iPad/lightning adapters that will run hdmi and power. Prices are all over the place.
2) looks like you’ll need a mini/micro hdmi adapter

actually instead of another adapter Id just buy a new HDMI cable - they have micro on one end and standard on the other, thats what I have for my GoPro

Amazon has it for $50, they ain’t cheap for such a small dongle.

ya but it says apple on it so....

Spoke to Apple. Their adapters allow you to utilize HDMI OUT, not HDMI IN.

well shit, that had crossed my mind and I meant to mention it but clearly forgot.

Not as convenient but probably laptop time then... or if you have a spare desktop monitor with an HDMI in

Does the camera have wifi or bluetooth? I wonder if you could do it wireless?

It has both. I just don't know what the delay would be, and I can't have much of one, if any. haha

Installed a 7" monitor in the Viper for a continuous rear view camera. With the rollbar and wing, the rearview mirror is worthless.

I was just doing some research because the Virb camera has an app that allows video viewing...but if it's .5 seconds lag, it wouldn't help me any haha

Yeah. The monitor I'm using now is fine, but if you're not looking at it straight on or within 5-8 degrees, it gets blurry.

Obviously if I get it mounted 100% fixed and it can't move..not a problem, but if it jolts just a little bit I don't want it to be worthless.

iPads/tablets have a better screen, so that's what I was shooting for.

If I could do it through bluetooth/wifi with no delay, I'd be all over it, but I'm hesitant to believe that'll work. Might try it with my phone first and see!

Saw that actually. Bulky setup.

Next problem, the camera is facing backwards, so the iPad or tablet would have to flip the image it receives from the camera in order for the objects behind you on the right, show on the right of the camera instead of the left as the camera sees it.

I think I'll just stick with what I have any really fasten it down tight so it won't move out of eye alignment.
