I was looking at a set of tires for my 2013 GT500 with the PP wheels. They are 9.5 by that alone I should be able to square the fronts and rears at 295's correct? I don't see anything listed where someone is running R888R. Car currently is around 700'ish wheel and the cup 2's just cant handle it anymore and spin. Looking at going 295 19 fronts and 295 20 rears, any drawbacks from squaring them up? I know the fronts come with a 265 and maybe someone might know why that is?

Have you ran Toyos before?
They run significantly wider than most other manufactures.
Do you need to square them for track events or something?
Could you get a 295 on a 9.5 wheel? Yes. But just because you can doesn't mean you should.
I would think the buldge of the sidewall would be scary looking on a 9.5" wheel

If it's not for track events (and I dont know anyone who runs 20's) than just go with Toyo outback and find a good front tire.

I was planning on doing some track events and stepping the pulley down with as much tire as I can get under it. I have pzero up front and it keeps washing out.

I just ordered the 285 35 20 r888r for my car everyone says they run wide so I would stick to the stock size unless you are gonna upgrade your wheels to a 10-11in wide wheel

If you do, go with Bimini's recommendation on rear tires, that's what I'm running. At least until they wear out and then the 555RII's. Although at 500 miles/year it might be a while :p

This is a 305 on the factory rear rim. A little buldge, and you need to run a wisker less air pressure to not burn the centers out because of the narrow rim, but handled decent and definitely helped with traction. A 295 would be a great fit on stock wheels.

I'm running 305x35 MT's on my '13 which are 1.75" Taller than fronts. It sits with a slight rake. But even ay 716rwhp/680tq thru 410 gears at anywhere from 15mph(1900rpm) to 40mph
(2500rpm) the Mickeys dead hook on a 2nd gear roll throttle stab. They never slip in 3rd anywhere. Only suspension mods are BMR Adjustable UCA's. On the stock UCA's they'd slip at 40mph. I'd consider a tire change rather than just squaring.

The Nitto 555R fits the stock rim even better.
I can’t imagine driving these cars even stock without DRs.

3rd gear is your friend. Stock, but a decent 305, and you'll get traction, unless its wet or cold or what have you. My 325s let go on the highway a few weeks ago. I had to sacrifice a fresh pair of Fruit of the looms.

I keep telling myself I am going to go to R888's when my ET/SS wear out, but I can't bring myself to take that chance. lol
I would love to have a car I felt inspired to throw into corners again though.

What about the standard Nitto 555 G2?

I have G2s on a set of OEM rims and the rear were widened to 10.75. I am extremely happy with them. I went 275 on front and 305 on rear. They ride smooth and quiet and have decent traction. Keep in mind, I am stock power level and not modded. For the price, they are a good tire. Maybe not what you guys considering drag radials would want.

I’m happy with the wheelspin at 650whp using 305/35/20 Mickeys on a widened 11” rim. Contact patch looks similar to the 555 G2 so I may go that route.

A 315/35 might be ideal for a non-DR but I really don’t want to get into moving mounts.

Nitto has made this confusing but there is a regular NT555 and NT555 G2 then there is the Drag Radial version with old school but overall awesome NT555R, and their newest DR the NT555R G2.
The DR version is what is absolutely the best mod for any GT500 and the new G2’s offer potential as the newest update of a proven tire.
VERY few people when honest with themselves will prefer other DRs compared to Nitto.
I’ve tried them all and for a street compromise the NT555R has been the best true street traction for guys that really drive their cars regularly.
I’m looking forward to trying the 555R G2, but I would not recommend the regular non-drag radial.

Isn’t the MT similar in contact patch to the non-DR G2? Looks like it to me, depending on compound.

Maybe it’s just my power level / driving style but a very used set of MT’s is doing just fine for me personally. I like running nittos in general though so if they’re comparable I’ll be happy.

I don’t race the car and the controllable wheel spin I currently get is easy to manage. It also gives me peace of mind for the drivetrain. Now that the RST clutch is in I’m more concerned about prolonging the clutch and drivetrain than winning races. Any good fun digs I get into will be done from a roll.

Thoughts?
