Those were sweet cars. A guy who lived by me had one (I believe it was an '04) in Laguna Seca Blue (amazing color in person) with bolt ons. He would talk trash and thought he wanted a piece of my 360R with bolt ons, that is until he went for a ride. Lol

M3s have always intrigued me, but I've never owned one. Nice video that takes you back two decades. I'd prefer the coupe, but that convertible is NICE!

What a bad ass right this was and I believe it was around 330 hp which is pretty impressive at the time for a V-6 or in-line six was it. But man did this car sound like dog shit

When my neighbor put exhaust on his it rivaled the worst sounding ricers out there for sure. At least it wasn't all bark.

As @F8l Vnm mentioned this car sound like absolute ass but it’s the one car I’ve owned that I don’t ever see myself getting rid of.

For me under 3400lbs , manual, 8k redline , 333hp NA motor checks all my boxes and the balance the car has Always puts a smile on my face. I probably wouldn’t like it as much if it was a daily driver but as a track only/canyon drives it’s perfection.

My buddy had a carbon black one. Sweet ride and it had the optional 19s. Sweet ride and like you said so damn balanced. We actually talked him into putting a exhaust on it but he took it off after a couple of days. Super Raspy. The Z4 M was pretty cool too.

dude that was quick for that time! Now we have plaids doing 150s in the quarter. Pretty soon we Are going to see work trucks that do stock 10 second quarter mile
10sec work truck made me laugh but you’re probably right. It’s crazy to think where are standards are now . Also crazy that the msrp of the M3 has literally doubled.

I’m wondering if this car will be view as a classic in 20-30 years

Both of our sons each have an E46 M3. They love them. There was a period of time when they were a relatively affordable. Now they are on fire. Arguably one of the best M3's of all time, a great pure driving experience.

I had one I bought new in 04. A manual coupe. Without a doubt, most fun to drive car I have ever owned. That is saying something. It is an amazing car that connects with the driver and feels like you can do anything. Yes, by todays standards of power its not fast, but the 8k redline combined with a slick shifting 6speed and driving dynamics to put even most 911s to shame.... its a very cool car.
Ive been looking for the right one to buy. Prices keep rising. The avg prices for a low mile 6-speed coupe are as much as a new 5.0 GT now.

I'm going to assume prices for the SMG are quite a bit lower than a 6 speed? There was an episode of Wheeler Dealers where they made an SMG car into a normal 6 speed. Looked fairly easy; definitely easier than finding an affordable original 6 speed car!

Do you have a C5 that you use for autocross or is that someone else?
