Sold my Cobra in 2017 to go to a vette and have missed the New Edge ever since. Went from a 2.9 Whipple Terminator to a 2017 C7 Grand Sport to a 2017 C7 Z06 to a 2018 GT350 to without a fun car (still had the 03 Lightning) when I had my first kid in 2019. I picked up a Lexus to put miles on since my commute was 35 minutes one way but have been working remote since march 2020 due to covid. I only put about 1800 miles on the Lexus in the last 2 years so with values up, and a permanent remote position, I decided to get rid of it and buy 2 cars cash with the proceeds. Last November I picked up a 04 Navigator for the few times I need something with a car seat and a 01 Cobra. I went with the 01 due to current prices of the 03/04's and all the parts I would be changing to make it my own, just made more sense to go with the cheaper car. Enough blabbing, lets move on to the car.
01 Cobra, Black/Parchment, just under 41K miles, 2 previous owners, only mods were--Shifter, clutch, and welded in flow masters. I drove it home from Illinois and I swear it was like going back in time 20yrs! The car has a dealer installed Webasto sunroof which I was on the fence about until I saw it in person. Paint is in great shape and the interior only had some wear on the driver bolster. Pics from the original ad below.

Once I got it home I removed the front plate bracket to see the damage to the front bumper, stripped off the purple tint and put about 100 miles on the car but damn it sucked stock! Even still had the 40ft antenna! I only bought this car for a project so it went on jack stands almost immediately.

Of course now I have a little helper...

The first round of mods had to include fix/replace some body parts, new wheels, some loud, and some low. It was so much fun deciding all the combo's I wanted to run, took me back to 2012 when I bought my 04 (it was stock when I purchased it as well). I didn't want to through a bunch of Terminator stuff at it and make it look like something it is not although there will end up being some 03/04 parts in the end.
Since December I have picked up:
03/04 side skirts
H&R sports springs
shorty antenna
MGW shifter / New knob
03/04 mirrors
Bullitt trunk lid
XXR 526's with 265/35/18 front , 315/30/18 rear
Stinger catback
Mach 1 Chin
00 Cobra R brakes
Ordered ARH Headers and x pipe in December that should ship this month
Bilstein B6 struts and B8 rear shocks
Eibach front sway bar
MM solid steering shaft and solid rack mounts

As of right now the K member is out and manifolds are off waiting on headers. Still much to do--- roll fenders, polish exhaust pipes install rear springs, etc. Dropping off the front bumper, mirrors and trunk lid next month for paint. Once it is rolling again will get it re-tinted and cleaned up. Few more pics below, I will update thread as more parts go in.

Love the lip but hate the dual drill pattern.

Congrats. I recently bought an 01 myself for the exact reason you did. Plus I wouldn't feel bad about coyote swapping an 01 if I decide to go that route
Agreed! I thought about a swap too but decided I’m going to stay 4.6 based. Will be N/A for a while but boost will most likely be the route

Congrats on your Cobra.

Please add video once the Stingers/headers are installed.

I had both an '01 Cobra Vert (Parchment top/Saddle int) with stock exhaust and '01 Bullitt that I installed Borla Stingers on. The Stingers were excellent. Deep, throaty, no drone, 4.6L sound. Best sounding vehicle I've ever owned. Tons better than my current '20 Mustang GT with OEM Active Exhaust.

IMO, if you want "wake the dead loud", you may want Ataks.

Yea I am exaggerating a bit. I think stingers will make me happy. I had SLP’s on my 04 with a prochamber and loved the sound but didn’t want to do a carbon copy of my last edge car. Buddy of mine had stingers with Mac headers on his boosted Mach 1 and I loved the sound! Plus I like the tailpipes of the borla over the multi sectioned SLP pipes.

Congratulations on buying that '01 Cobra. Nice list of mods (smart move with the MGW shifter). Post pics when the mods are done. I predict a fun summer!!

Nice find. I bought an 01 last week from a member with the same thought. I am a former Terminator owner (total idiot move selling!) and I looked at them again but decided I didn't want to tear up a Terminator for a project. So, instead I looked at other options and found the 01 roller on here with a lot of the mods I wanted already. Now to figure out the engine and trans situation. I have a 99 Cobra engine in pieces, but those dam Coyote engines make a ridiculous amount of power N/A and the cost is comparable to rebuild or hunt for a 2nd Gen Coyote. To get to power levels I would be happy with I would need to throw boost at the 99 engine and turbo would be what I would want.

The 01s are really nice cars and they seem to be rising in price quickly. Often overlooked, but can be built into something really nice. I think the Terminator prices are causing the other Cobras to rise in price as people are turned off by the Terminator prices but still want a project. You are lucky you have your 01 front bumper! Mine is a fiberglass repro from what I can tell.

I was tore up to see the holes the front license plate bracket put in the bumper but I have a great body shop that is going to fix it and repaint it. I thought about that roller in the market several times, it is a great base to start with. Terminator prices are through the roof and just could not justify spending that much unless it was already modded to fix the normal stuff but then that wouldn’t be fun to me. I want to turn all the bolts on the car. Next winter will be gears, FTBR goodies and T56 swap. Going to make sure it is running when the weather is good so the modding will be stretched out over time.

Thanks Bob! The MGW is just such a good piece, it’s my favorite by far for these cars.

Been a while since I updated this thread.
Cleaned it up a little today, enjoyed it over the summer minus blowing the rear diff cover and a/c clutch burning up. Installed the ford racing cover, ftbr front diff brace and MM diff bushings.
Turned the odometer a little past 42K this week. My son loves riding in it!
Still got some adjusting to do on the P/S tailpipe

Those wheels are perfect on that car. It pulls the black paint and chrome exhaust/badges together perfect.

Any exhaust videos yet?
