Avid golfers, how often do you fall into a slump?

I have a pxg 0811+ driver that I really like..... just not lately. Overall it's been my best driver so far.

Went today and fought a bad knot in my upper left back by my shoulder blade. And my right hand pinky that interlocks with my left hand is very sore. Might be a sprain.....

The Gen 2 0811 was what got me to check out PXG. Second round out after a 16 year hiatus, I hit my father-in-law’s neighbor’s Gen 2 0811 on the 18th and it was the only fairway I hit plus a 250yard drive barely trying.

I went and got fitted.

The Gen 3 P irons are ****ing butter!

The 0211 Hybrid and Putter are the cheap end but they just work.

The Gen 4 woods are nice, I have rocketed some shots with them. The big thing is me.

The driver is hitting more fairways in a round than I could hit in 4-5 previously. I am possibly going to do a big driver fitting with ever shaft and head combination possible soon. It will take a lot to beat out the PXG.

I play a lot of golf, was playing every day for a few years though I’ve scaled it back some. Slumps are natural, I usually go through a few really bad slumps a year. Luckily I’ve learned how to combat them. For me its about deciding what you want to achieve and then based on that working to become automatic at one thing that can save you during a slump. For me that’s chipping and putting.

I just watched our club champion play 2 weeks of brutal golf and miss out on qualifying for the state amateur tournament, and then come in basically last in a club tournament. It happens, golf is hard. (I keep asking him if he got space jammed by Charles Barkley).

Usually I fall into a slump some time between right after I leave the practice range before a rd and before I tee one up on #1

Typically I get out of it as I walk away from #18. Unless I'm playing 36...

I did manage a birdie and a few pars yesterday. But also had plenty of double and triple bogeys

One of the things I have tried recently to improve my game is a personal launch monitor. Yes, I am well aware that a $600 launch monitor will not be as accurate as a $40k Trackman so we don’t have to discuss that.

I have tried the Swing Caddie SC300i, SC4, and Garmin R10. What I am looking for is help dialing in my club distances and seeing how things feel and what improvements are being made.

First one I tried was the SC300i which worked well, had a few shots not get tracked, distance readouts looked good, and I liked the the fact that it has a display.

Next was the Garmin R10, it provides way more data but a lot is based on algorithmic calculations. You have to use a phone or tablet which I used my iPad. The data is pretty good, shot tracing is decent as long as you align things properly. I bought alignment sticks for this and to help me train my eyes.

Last was the SC4. I had high hopes based off the SC300i and was severely disappointed. As with the SC300i, the SC4 has a display so no need for a phone or iPad. It has the ability to dial in your club lofts and lie angles which, in my mind, should help with accuracy. I aligned it and it let me down. A lot of shots were never registered by the device. Even darts straighter than us top tier SVTP members just came up blank. The irons picked up great but the driver, woods, and hybrid was only picking up about 15% of the time.

I sent back the SC300i and will be sending back the SC4.

Anyway, I used the R10 again today. The Security Agent on my laptop never got updated so it was locked down yesterday and today. I had to wait for IT. **** it, I will get paid to screw off. I hit about 120-150 balls today after hitting 120 on Sunday.

Next round scheduled is with my father-in-law when they come up for my daughter’s dance recital in two weeks.

I need to strike a bit better to take better advantage of how I swing.

Man you seem to hit pretty good! I've been looking at wanting a device to check all my stats. I've seem to have lost distance with each club (other than my driver) over the last two years. I'm 43 years old and don't feel I should be losing distance already.

My problem is, my swing/tempo isn't consistent.

I just turned 44 on Tuesday. I did not expect to hit like this still. In the 16 year hiatus I took I had shoulder surgery to repair three tears and had to have bone removed. I have arthritis throughout my spine, knees, and hip issues from sports in school and the military.

That said, I am being honest when I say that my back, hips, knees, and shoulder has not felt this good in ten years.

Heading out for a round right now. Playing the oldest municipal course in Nashville.

Well, that round was shit! The course was
Scenic but that was about the only positive. The greens were like chipping onto and putting on concrete domes on top of a mound or on the sides of hills. One green was literally meh fairway as the actual green was nothing but dirt and sand. The fairways were ok. The tee boxes were half just dirt and sand.

No joke, I hit the front edge going up hill on a green with a little easy chip shot, the bitch picked up steam and went off the other side. Putting was hilarious. A nice easy 5 foot putt would bounce around like a Mexican Jumping Bean.

I'm playing Tuesday for the first time in 3 years. Should be interesting compared to how I used to play.
You might be surprised. I see plenty of people that haven't golfed in years or maybe only played a couple times a year play well.

Likely reason, because they aren't overthinking everything. The more I golf, the worse I get it seems.

I feel like I fall into slumps here and there, it's just natural I believe even pros have off days. Especially early in the year because I don't practice in the winter. I also play softball so occasionally I get that alternate swing that just boogers everything up. I did reach out to a guy that used to be my local course pro about taking some lessons just to fix a few kinks.

However at our recent outing to Mesquite I am not sure what I did and refuse to figure it out, but with my wedges from 115 in I have been pretty good and within 50 to 60 yds I have been getting backspin or check up 1 hop and stops.

I just switched from the pxg 811 driver back to a callaway rogue ls. It made a difference I thought and gained yardage back.

Had a really good front 9, shot a 43. Thought I finally had a chance to shoot in the 80's. Then I couldn't hit my driver on the back 9 and got head games...shot a 52. Still shot a 95 which is good for me.

My father-in-law and I will be playing on the 12th at a course neither of us has played. It is supposedly one of the best municipal courses around.

Well, not going to play the muni course as they apparently have a tournament that day. We are playing the course right up the road.

I picked my two nine hole courses for Mexico.

I will be playing Mission and Ocean so I get a Norman and Nicklaus design and that keeps me closest to the ocean for the 18.

Now to wait a month until the booking window opens up for Disney’s Lake Buena Vista course. My father-in-law and I are definitely playing it in October. My manager and a coworker may be joining us.

And if you guys have not, check out Alex Elliott Golf on YouTube. He is a goofy ****er but, he has great little 5 minute tips/lessons that I think are top notch.

My previous career allowed me to golf daily for almost four years. I would hit a slump about once a month, but I attributed it to hitting Mizuno MP58s. After changing careers my game has suffered significantly as I only have the opportunity to play once a month now.

Went to a better range today. My driver has been killing my scores. I've been topping the ball like crazy. I took videos and seemed to find out what I have been doing wrong.

I have a problem that I get myself into. I start doing only half a back swing and then don't follow through all the time.

Crazy thing is, my practice swing is always a 3/4 to a full swing.

So I concentrated on mimicking my practice swing and letting my wrist break up top which is giving me a fuller swing. I started hitting draws and hitting them more flush, more constantly.

I'll be golfing tomorrow afternoon, hopefully I can get things back to better.
