There's also Price's law: 50% of the work is done by the square root of the total number of people who participate in the work.

Think about it like this. How many engineers does a company like Ford have? Thousands.

How many of them are actually coming up with the designs for shit, and how many are just monkeys running test stands or plugging shit into Solidworks or CATIA?

Since were focusing on the letter P there is also the Peter principle:

Workers get promoted based on success in previous jobs until they get to a level at which they are no longer good at their job since skills in one job don't necessarily translate to another.

Saw that for decades when teachers made the jump from the classroom to administration.

Place I work at has the mentality of hating to promote from within.

“ if you’re good at your job why would we move you. We would have to replace you then “

I don't even want to think about it. My check yesterday was 800 in taxes for 2 weeks. It's been theft for years and they spend it to suit their party and other country's like our money grows on trees.

Taxation is theft. Far too many idiots vote to raise their own taxes. I don't understand all these idiots I have to put up with in this country.

Even worse is sales people promoted to management. For the most part they are horrible.

You guys are blowing this up though imo. Of course it makes sense for the promotions to come from the existing ranks. Now that does not mean everyone or even a majority of them would be good at it though. I.E. and engineer can have excellent management skills. (He is probably not the smartest of the engineers).

I mean is the suggestion to have a bunch of Business Management people running engineering departments, hospitals, etc... LMFAO.

What I don’t quite understand sometimes is why managers (who typically don’t do anything but delegate and prioritize work) have to get paid more than the front liners who actually do it and know how to do it welll. I’m in software and data, and why manages who do nothing but tell us what to we need to code, get paid more than us who actually know how to do it. Bugs me but such is life. It’s Out of my control. And yes, most managers couldn’t tell you how to write one line of code….

You all miss the entire problem with today's workforce. By design, you are all slaves. Any large scale company in any industry buys up the competition until there is only a couple of competing large corporations. Those large corporations then lobby law makers to create rules and red tape that guarantees no former employees could ever get enough money to start up a competing company. Employees are always fighting for scraps and consumers are stuck paying controlled pricing. If corporations were afraid of employees competing, they would pay wages to reflect the value of keeping a great employee from leaving to start their own company.

I agree with you but I can at least understand the principle of why. The manager is supposed to be managing employees but they are also supposed to be able to implement strategies in many cases that help drive profit. It's not in every job necessarily, but for many small businesses they rely on managers to essentially do everything that you would expect the owner of the shop to do. I've been in that position and I've worked under others that have done the same. Only difference for me was I had all that responsibility, did the job well, but yet got paid less than most the people in the shop who had a lot more time and experience in their positions. When I demanded more money and was turned down was when I walked away. For what they get paid, managers should be doing just as much or more work, and I agree that they should know the subject matter well enough to perform it at an average pace.

Isn't it funny how we were a country for 130+ years before the 16th amendment was ratified? Battleships were still built, roads were still paved, schools still existed in those days and the decades prior.

I always say that payroll deductions shouldn't be allowed. At the end of the year everyone should have to go write a check for the SS/Medicare/Medicaid deductions as well as local, state and federal taxes. Given that at least 75% of people would never have the funds to cover that bill, people would start voting REAL QUICK for politicians who want lower taxes.

I hate taxation will all my being but if there is an appropriate place for it then "user fees" makes the most sense. Use more government resources? Fine, you pay more then.

Theoretically, a manager has authority to go with their responsibility and are held accountable to that fact. I have turned jobs down that offered a manager job and responsibility with no effective authority.

That's actually one of the reasons I'm leaving my current position. They discovered I'm good at my job so they would always run to me for priorities or when something new came in. A position opened up that everyone agreed I would be perfect for and when one of the managers mentioned my name to the DPM the response was "who's that?".

Now everyone is worried because I'm leaving along with most of my knowledge.

100% agree with this. Show up to your county clerk once per year with your wad of tax cash, and cry it out while you realize how hard you are getting ****ed.
