not looking for perfection but i'd like to straighten this. i know nothing about bodywork but that pdr looks like it can do wonders. i looked at it from inside and it looks too tough to get straight enough to be able to just push out.

on the other hand this is a very common part (2004-2008 f150) even in this exact color, and i am sure i'd be able to find one in better shape from a boneyard, and probably for fairly cheap. maybe cheaper than trying to repair.

what do you think? thanks

Replace all day if it was me. We got some for work in color for ours that were nice. No clue where they got them.

That looks pretty warped. Replacement would be easier and maybe cheapest.
Have you priced a replacement?

haven't got an actual quote yet but some preliminary boneyard searches looked like they might go between 125-250 (?). which, like you say would probably be cheaper.

but unless i were to luck out with a local scrapyard i bet the shipping charges would be a lot.

it's a pretty common color i saw quite a few that were this color

I'd get a quote from someone if I were you. that is a very accessible location. I bet it won't take as long as we think.
I agree. I saw a dude on YouTube working dents out of motorcycle fuel tanks and was impressed. Looks like the same type of jig may be able to be used.

I'd keep an eye out in parking lots for tailgates that would fit and do the old switcheroo.

i just saw this patrick, sorry bout that!!

i am not sure, dont think i ever heard of them before. but i will check it out.

i still haven't called any body shops or anything, it is kind of a low priority on my truck. i just figured this is the next thing now that i got the seats done. thanks for the suggestion, and i will report back with some price comparisons!

Hope you can update here if you had the comparison. There's a low mileage Ranger here with new rotors, kmc wheels, and continentals. It also got almost similar tailgate dent. The owner is willing to deduct for a replacement tailgate. My buddy is highly interested in this truck.

sure thing. i have made some progress and compiled some info about it.

- took it to a body shop for a quote ( off the vehicle). guy took one look at it and said, u need a tailgate. for that job he saif they would just write it up as the vehicle needs a replacement tailgate.

- local boneyards have several in stock... grade "a"$275; grade "b" $225; grade "c" $180. this is the direction i'll be heading. i don't need it perfect. but i want it to match so i am going to try to luck out with the same color (satin silver is VERY common, so i like my chances, will just have to be patient).

- the aftermarket sells brand spankin' new ones (some even pre-painted white, black, or silver) for only a few hundred bucks. but from what i've read, they are not as strong as oem and buckle under stress. probably made from thinner gauge steel than ford, no surprise there.

- national boneyard searches showed me prices all over the place, even up to 1k, so instead i'll trust my local prices mentioned above as to what probably is realistic.

- didn't even check with ford because even if still available i dont need a new one and it would need to be painted anyway.

i think that's it, hope this helps

yes that's sure what its sounding like. from the inside you can see that there's so much structural stuff in the way.
