Hello All,

This might be a lame question for some of you but I need your advice. Can anyone tell me if an 03 Supercharger will fit on a 99 Cobra without many modifications?

Thanks,
Ryan

I believe you can, but will need to buy the following parts.
2R3Z 6F066-AA Genuine Ford 2003 Cobra supercharger $1199.99
3R3Z 9424-DA Genuine Ford 2003 Cobra upper intake assy, includes, EGR, Bracket, TB, IAC, and snake emblem $ 399.99
2R3Z 9424-BB Genuine Ford 2003 Cobra lower intake $399.99

2R3Z 6312-BA Genuine Ford 2003 Cobra SC aux drive pulley, idler pulley and mounting bracket $ 239.99

2R3Z 6K775-BA Genuine Ford 2003 Cobra intercooler assy $359.99
Genuine Ford 2003 Cobra I/C coolant lines: - below
2R3Z 9L443-AA $ 12.99
2R3Z 9L443-BA $ 12.99
2R3Z 9L443-CA $ 11.99
2R3Z 9L443-DA $ 11.99
2R3Z 9L443-EA $ 11.99
2R3Z 9N491-CA $ 31.99
2R3Z 9L443-GA $ 11.99
2R3Z 9L443-FA $ 11.99
2R3Z 9N491-HA tube assy $ 108.99
2R3Z 9258-CA bracket $ 10.99
2R3Z 8K226-AA I/C coolant radiator $ 399.99

You will probably need to also upgrade your fuel system and will not be able to push more then the stock 8# boost unless you replace your internals.

Forged pistons, rods, proper cams, intake manifold, MAF meter, computer tune and the correct belt and accessory drive setup. This is the correct way(if I left anything out yall set me straight) imho. With out these things your building a time bomb.

Your best bet if you dont want to do all this is go with a centrifugal at low boost(6lbs or so). Or 13000 bones will get you a drop in 03 motor.
I would say that would be cheaper than building it unless you do all the work yourself. When you figure in the price of cobra engine parts , a blower and the labor to install and tune I think you would be better off with the drop in motor, but then you have to think about the rest of the drive train. Youll need a good clutch, transmission and drive shaft.

IMO, the facination with these cars' engine is not the blower, but what is under it. Just think of the blower as "the cherry on top"

I asked this very question Friday night to a 01 Cobra owner drewling all over my 03 at a Mustang meet, he said that the actual heads are of a different, smaller design port wise on the 01 vs the 03 so you would have to buy 03 heads to use the 03 S/C setup and that the engine itself has much weaker internals so you would be limited to stock boost levels. I dont think the intake would match up to the heads is what I mean, I dont know for sure though, just what I was told. I guess he did some research on it.

The heads do have slightly smaller intake and significately smaller exhaust ports on the pre-03 Cobras. I believe they should still mate up, but there is only one way to tell for sure. You will definetely be limited to stock or less boost with the weak internals.

I would recommend as said earlier buying the long block from ford with everything done as being the substantially easier and cost effective solution.

i would rather go centrifugal. the blowers are a lot more efficient and everything comes with the kit that youll need except maybe injectors and a maf meter and maybe a tune. if i had the dough to buy one of the frpp n/a intakes and put on the centrifugal, i would get rid of the roots

Yeah, I hear that.. he could not even go to a KB since KB skipped over those model Cobras and went right to the 03. I guess I would be a little upset as well. I have had a Vortec before and there is just no comparison to a roots style blower.. I would never go centrifugal again, that much of a difference. No one wants to give him enough for his Cobra to upgrade to the 03. I would be a little upset if Ford comes out with a S/C'd 05 or 06 5.4 motor making gobs of power over the 03.. oh well, I am quite happy with the 03 and probably would not upgrade unless it were really something special.

Did your car have gears? The downside to centrifugal supercharging on the '96-'99 and '01 DOHC Cobras is there is still no low end torque and it takes too long to get into the powerband with the stock 3.27s. If you put 4.10s into the equation (or 3.73s), the car makes it into the powerband MUCH quicker and offsets the lack of torque. Then all you have to worry about is having enough tire to handle it :) Seems like a reasonable compromise, especially considering a roots/twin screw is not available for the '99 and '01 DOHCs.

Having said that, had I kept my '98 Cobra, I would certainly have gone KB over centrifugal, because I love the low end punch the roots/twin screw gives over the centrifugal...

Just my $.02

Well...the Mach 1 is alittle better suited for that swap....has the same exact heads and cams as the 03 Cobra. But still with just a forged crank thats in the 5 speed cars....8 lbs of boost (stock eaton setup) would be about it. Not bad though..still fun. Better to get a wrecked 03 Cobra and either swap the engine and trans or get the needed parts for the swap. I still think it would be better to just get a vortech or procharger or paxton for your setup. So much out there with those setups and all the trial and error has been done.
