10.5" rears. Will 295/40/17 fit?

I've done the research, and know that in order to do a 315 wide we have to drop down to 35 tall.
What I'm trying to figure out (and having little success) is whether or not I can run a 295 rear and stay with 40 tall on a 10.5" rear rim.

I guess I should actually see if anyone makes a decent 295 also.........

what is wrong with 315's??????? They are the same height as the stockers. the taller 295/40 with throw off your speedo a bit as well.

They will fit fine.
Not sure if they'll throw your speedometer off though. :shrug:

I remember being told something about certain sizes are the same overall diameter of other sizes....like 275/40 and 315/35's.

Someone with a lot more tire knowledge than I will hopefully answer this.

Geez Toad...you still haven't made your mind up about tires? ;-)
btw...looks like I have some brand new 315 BFG DR's to unload.

It is? well slap me sideways and call me Lucy! :eek:
This is why I ask these questions, hehe.

'Racy, did the OE's come? Is that why your saying you've got the BFG's for sale?

That's what I was trying to say. ;-)

No rims yet. Gonna cancel them and put the money to good use elsewhere right now...like making sure traction doesn't render the car inoperable again. :rollseyes

Not to beat a dead horse, but unless I'm mistaken the second # is the percentage of the tread width that the sidewall measures. For example 275/40 has a sidewall height of 275 * .40 or 110mm. a 315/35 would be 110.25mm. Anyone verify if this is correct?

That is correct. :thumbsup:

Therefore,

315/35/17 --> 25.68" overall diameter, with a 4.34" single sidewall height.
275/45/17 --> 25.66" overall diameter, with a 4.33" single sidewall height.

295/40/17 --> 26.29" overall diameter, with a 4.65" single sidewall height.

This means the 295/40/17 will slow your speedo by 2.46% or when the car is traveling at 70 mph your speedo will read about 68 mph.

I'm planning on buying some replica wheels in a 10.5 width and a 315 series tire. I'm also plannign on lowering the car as well. How low is too low for 315's and what spring do you guys consider using?

Thanks, Corey
