Were there any mustang cobras built in these years.A guy at a car shows says his is a 80 cobra. It s black with the same interior as the pace car version. He can t get any information from any Ford people. They say that they did not keep records of them.It has a metal tag on the radiator with some numbers and abbreviation CBR. Any help?

'79-'80 Cobras

There definately were Cobras back then, but were quite enemic in the HP
department and small in production numbers. The '79 Cobra could be had
with either the 302 V8 or a turbocharged 2.3L 4-cyl. The Cobra nmbers
produced were much less than the Pace Cars of the same year. In 1980
the Cobra model was the top of the line in that there was no Pace Car
Model. The '80 Cobra had a down scaled 4.2L (255 in) V8. The graphiced
hood really stood out with a full length cowl which the '82 GT forward-
facing hood scoop replaced.

The cobras were also made in 1981. It was a mostly just a graphics/sticker package. They did have a dash emblem and emblems on the door panels. Its pretty rare to see them. They do surface on ebay once in a while. In 80 and 81 they came with the 255 ci v8. The 302 made a comeback with the reintroduced GT in 82.

Most of the ones I have seen were the turbo 4cyl's.

I did have an aunt that had one that looked identical to an 82 GT (front fascia and all) but was a V-8 cobra
