So as I'm starting to come up with a list of stuff in my head to buy in preparations for a blower, I automatically just thought I'd do a 255lph in tank pump like I did many years ago on my old 96. However, I accidentally stumbled upon some old ass threads about 98 having different setup and odd??? Is this true? Will a walbro 255lph not just drop right in and be worry free? What am I missing here?

The 98 was the transition year from return to returnless fuel setup. The 98 fuel lines are still routed like a return style but uses a variable voltage pump like the newer returnless. When I installed a Vortech on my 98 Cobra over a decade ago fuel pump options were limited. I went with a Lincoln Aviator pump and its still working to this day. Now there is a few more options with the same fuel pump being able to work in both applications. The Aeromotive 320 for example, would work for our application.
