Well-What do you guys think:

I'm not going to be porting my blower so would
it still be worth go'n to a 2.80 with an idler. I'm
just unsure if I want extra heat in the summer
months come'n for a small additional gain in RWHP.
I do have 4.10's that I like & will not change out.
Probably will not be worth the effort for me needing
an idler for the 2.80 & having to go thru a new tune.

What are your numbers? Mine are in my sig with a 2.8" and sort of similar mods, although appear to you have a few more.

You will see an increase in torque with the 2.8 over the 2.93 but at the cost of increasing the heat from overspinning the heaton. I would stay with the 2.93, personally.

There both good mods its just personal preferance and knowing the smaller pulley can pooch the blower a bit sooner there already past the 16000 rpm redline with the 2.93 and be prepared for a chip mod,Dave Smilovic.

Amen, I liked my 2.9 better than my 2.8

agreed.

2.80 just spins the eaton too fast. 2.93 is already putting it to it's maximum RPM (which i believe is 14k-16krpm). I'll be doing the Apten hopefully next month, and will most likely be doing a 2.76 or 2.80 pulley as well. I'll be sure to post the results as i'm having my car dyno'd again (with my current setup, see "Mod List" link in sig) on May 1st, then will be having it dyno'd around end of may early june to get it re-tuned after the new mods.

Hopefully the new mods will be:
- Apten ported S/C
- 2.76 or 2.80 pulley
- Accufab or Billetflow TB
- Gords or LFP HE
- DSS 900RWHP half-shafts
- Extra pair of rims (welds/draglites) w/ 315 BFG DRs.

P.S.-- Apten actually recommends going to the 2.80" pulley with their S/C port.

Some people say it'll make you run slower because of the extra heat, some say faster because of the extra boost. There both right- it depends on your car.

On *MY* car, the 2.80 is more fun on the street IMHO as it moves the power curve down by about 500 rpm; it also leans the a/f by about .2-.3. If you already have a traction problem, it'll make it worse. Now that's on MY car in back to back testing on a dyno and on the street. You're car might be different. Everyone has their own opinions- try it and see what you like better. For me, I've been running the 2.80 for almost 20k miles and I like it better than the 2.93. :)

So is it recommended to have an idler with the 2.93 setup?

2.93 vs 2.80

I run the 2.80 non slip, on a non-ported Eaton. My RWHP is 474 corrected for sea level, however it's 369 uncorrected at out altitude. You sea level folks don't have a clue what high altitude does to these motors...or maybe you do! I managed to reach 12.97 @ 108 and was really excited about that. Bandimere drag strip in Denver is 5800' above sea level. It really does a number on our motors. Most Z-06's and Vipers can't even get in to the low 13's here, unless they are highly modified.

But any way to counter the added heat generated by the smaller pulley I added the Gordsford HE with fans and dash mounted switches and a Fluidyne Radiator with water wetter. I think it will help, but my first track event is coming up May 8th. I guess time will tell. I'm considering the Meziere water pump. Has any one had any experience with that pump. I see Extreme has it for $344.95.

I went from a 2.93 to a 2.80.

I was going in for a custom tune, and I didn't want to have the 2.93 and then wonder later what the 2.80 might have done.

The torque increase with the 2.80 is noticeable by SOTP.

A poll was recently done on SVTP to determine the most popular pulley. The 2.80 won by a huge margin compared to any other pulley...

Ya:

I think I'll just stay with the 2.93 for now and see
how these ported blowers continue to develope.
The 2.80 WITH PORTING might be best but WITHOUT
porting I think it just will be to much heat. In Reno
summers get to the 90's to 100 on a regular basis
and I'd probably not gain any RWHP and possibly
even loose some overheating the blower. I've very
much noticed the SOTP differences with cooler outside
temp changes especially at 5,000 feet. I really just don't
need more TRQ without HP, because like I said, I'm all ready
running 4.10's which I love for the street & won't change them.
