Hey guys!
I am rarely on here anymore since I sold my 2013 GB Boss and purchased a C6Z, so I figured I would do a little write up and post since I like how NastyGT500 has his! I started my passion for detailing when I purchased my Boss and wanted to keep it clean because I spent so much on it! Needless to say that grew from a hobby to me opening Innovative Auto Detailing here in Sumter, SC!
The Detail!!!
A beautiful Velocity Yellow C6 Z06, HCIE car that the owner takes to many car shows and does track events at
places like Charlotte’s Roval and Road Atlanta!
I started of with the wash, Adam’s Car Shampoo is great for washes and I also have several others I recommend! I also used IGL Iron for chemical decontamination, which is the second picture! It goes in and pulls the iron from the paint, things like fallout and brake dust. I also used IGL Multi, which is like a super APC to cleanse the paint surface of all wax and sealants. I then went into clay barring!
After the prep for polishing was completed, my dad and I pulled her inside and put her on the jackstands to remove the wheels! The supervettes diffuser made it harder than usual to put it on stands
.
I then went and taped everything up in preparation for my rotary and wool pad! My new go to polishes are IGL F1 Compound and F3 Finish, we use them both when speed buffing. Finish helps lubricate the compound for a longer working time. The customer and I talked about only doing a 1-step Polish, but I decided to oratory most of the car because I am not going to release a car with IGL Kenzo on it with defects still in the paint! The car has seen a race environment so there were deep scratches everywhere! Well I went to work, a rotary gets a tad heavy after a while.
We we also decided on coating his wheels with IGL Wheel, which for his car seeing track time, is a smart move. IGL Wheel can withstand up to 800 degrees, which was a no brainer! I coated the wheel faces, inner barrels, and calipers. Apologies for no pictures as I was working and did not think about it at the time
.
Of course dad is chilling out smoking a cigar lol.
After the wheels were done, I jumped into polishing the car. I used my DA on speed 5 with an IGL Yellow pad and F1/F3. The finish down on that combo is surprising and worked like a charm!
The biggest thing about coating a car is prep. Most of your detailers time, skill, and knowledge goes into knowing how to paint correct and prep the car for the coating.
This car received the big daddy of IGL Coatings, IGL Kenzo. IGL Kenzo is a 10H rated 4 year warrantied coating. IGL’s coatings are all proven, as in the coating is rated for as long as it has been tested. There are Kenzo jobs out there that have lasted 5+ years because they have been maintained correctly.
Kenzo Base was laid down in this shot below. Night was falling and things were getting late!
Later that night around 1:00 a.m. I laid Kenzo Top, you have to wait 2 hours between layers!
The picture below shows the coatings used and the rest of the shots are the result!
The depth of Kenzo
!
IGL Kenzo Warranty Package! This tells you how to maintain the car with the coating and you have your warranty card! Do not get caught up in warranties when you are wanting a coating, warranties are usually between you and your detailer. For example, if one drives a coated car that I did through a drive
through wash, that warranty is void.
The customer sent me this picture a week ago, he went to Charlotte’s Roval and someone liked his car enough to snap a picture! IGL Kenzo really pops on that Velocity Yellow!
Feel free to ask any questions about IGL as they are pretty new to the scene!
Also remember, there are several different coatings on the market today. Find one that is right for you! One thing as well, coatings are scratch resistant. Which means they help against scratching slightly. If you are worried about scratching or rock chips, Paint Protection Film is for you! You can also coat over PPF as well, this car has it’s nose wrapped in clear film.
I will also be doing my personal C6Z soon after I finish all of her upgrades and will go more in depth with her
. Until then, I hope this helps anyone if they plan to do this themselves or have a professional detailer do it!
